What is a QA (Quality Assurance) professional?

QA (Quality Assurance) professionals are responsible for ensuring that products, usually software or hardware, meet specified quality standards before they are released to customers. They design and execute tests, identify defects, and work with development teams to improve processes and product reliability. Their goal is to prevent issues, ensure user satisfaction, and help organizations deliver high-quality outcomes efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a QA (Quality Assurance) professional?

To thrive as a QA professional, you need a strong understanding of software testing principles, attention to detail, and knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with automated testing tools (such as Selenium or JUnit), bug tracking systems (like Jira), and possibly certifications like ISTQB are highly valuable. Excellent analytical skills, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help QA professionals identify issues and work efficiently with development teams. These skills are essential to ensure software reliability, user satisfaction, and the overall success of development projects.

What are some common challenges Quality Assurance (QA) professionals face when working with cross-functional teams?

QA professionals often encounter challenges such as differing priorities between development and testing teams, tight project deadlines, and communication gaps that can lead to misunderstandings about requirements or bug severity. Successfully navigating these challenges requires strong collaboration skills, proactive communication, and a solutions-focused mindset. QA team members frequently act as a bridge between developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure quality standards are met throughout the software development lifecycle.

Qa (Quality Assurance) professionals focus on overall process improvement, standards, and preventing defects across the entire development cycle. Software Testers primarily execute test cases to identify bugs. While both roles involve testing, Qa has a broader scope including process audits, documentation, and quality standards, whereas Software Testers concentrate on executing tests and reporting issues.

Are QA testers still in demand?

QA testers remain in demand as companies prioritize software quality assurance, especially with the growth of digital products. Skills in automation tools like Selenium and understanding of testing frameworks increase employability in this field.

What do quality assurance jobs do?

Quality assurance jobs involve testing products, software, or services to ensure they meet specified standards and are free of defects. QA professionals develop test plans, identify issues, and collaborate with development teams to improve quality, often using tools like test management software and following industry standards. These roles require attention to detail and knowledge of testing methodologies.

Job description

Orlando, Onsite | Full-time

AutoPayPlus processes customer payments โ€” every release we ship touches real money moving through real accounts. In a rapidly growing, 100+ person company, we're a small, collaborative development team committed to delivering reliable, high-quality software that drives real business value. We work closely with stakeholders to develop and support .NET-based applications, Angular frontends, and Cordova mobile apps that customers trust with their payment data every day.

The QA Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that our web, API, and mobile solutions meet both functional and performance standards by leading the development and maintenance of automated tests, assisting with manual QA when needed, and contributing to the evolution of our CI/CD pipelines. Because our platform handles financial transactions, QA at AutoPayPlus isn't just about catching bugs โ€” it's about protecting customer trust at the point where software and money meet.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

โ€ข Develop, execute, and maintain test scripts for web, API, and mobile applications

โ€ข Define test plans, test cases, and test data to validate software functionality against requirements

โ€ข Perform functional, integration, regression, and performance testing across dev, QA, stage, and production environments

โ€ข Validate payment and transaction-handling flows for accuracy and data integrity as part of standard test coverage

โ€ข Work closely with developers, PMs, BAs, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, provide feedback, and validate stories

โ€ข Log, track, and help resolve defects in coordination with the development team

โ€ข Help manage releases by validating build artifacts and ensuring successful deployments

โ€ข Contribute to and help evolve our automated testing framework and QA best practices

โ€ข Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives)

โ€ข Provide feedback to improve test coverage, testability, and overall product quality

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience

Experience

โ€ข 3+ years in a QA or Software Test Engineering role

โ€ข 2+ years of hands-on experience with automated testing tools (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar)

โ€ข Experience testing REST APIs using tools like Postman or automated API test frameworks

โ€ข Experience testing web sites on desktop and mobile platforms

โ€ข Experience testing native mobile applications on both iOS and Android

โ€ข Solid understanding of QA methodologies, test planning, and Agile development

โ€ข Familiarity with version control systems (Git), CI tools (Azure DevOps Pipelines), and work tracking tools (Azure DevOps Boards)

โ€ข Familiarity with data-security or compliance-aware testing practices (e.g., PCI DSS-relevant handling of payment data) is a plus given our product domain

Preferred

โ€ข Experience with load and performance testing tools

โ€ข Familiarity with SQL for data validation (MS SQL Server)

โ€ข Knowledge of scripting or basic programming (e.g., TypeScript, JavaScript, C#, or Python)

SKILLS

โ€ข Business/Functional Analysis

โ€ข Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills

โ€ข Clear verbal and written communication

โ€ข Self-directed, motivated, and detail-oriented

โ€ข Team-oriented and collaborative

โ€ข Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies

โ€ข Familiarity with multi-branch/environment CI/CD workflows and DevOps practices

โ€ข Familiarity with EOS/Traction is helpful but not required

TOOLS / TECHNOLOGIES

โ€ข Test automation tools and frameworks

WHAT WE OFFER

โ€ข A small, collaborative engineering team inside a company scaling past 100 employees โ€” your work has visible, direct impact, not lost in a large org

โ€ข Direct exposure to the full stack: .NET, Angular, Cordova, and payments-domain systems

โ€ข A clear path to grow QA ownership as the team and automated testing framework mature

โ€ข 100% employer-paid medical coverage, plus dental and vision. [HR to confirm: 401(k), PTO policy, additional benefits.]

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is typically performed in an office setting. Occasional after-hours work may be required for deployment support or critical defect resolution.
