They may find employment in leather manufacturing, footwear, fashion, automotive, or research industries. Their role often includes testing leather properties, developing new finishes, and optimizing production efficiency.

What does a leather technologist do?

Professionals in Leather Technology are often involved in overseeing the stages of leather processing, from raw hide treatment to finishing and quality assurance. A typical day may include conducting laboratory tests, monitoring chemical usage, ensuring adherence to environmental and safety regulations, and troubleshooting production issues. Collaboration with production teams, quality inspectors, and sometimes clients or designers is frequent to meet specific product standards. This hands-on and team-based work environment helps ensure the final leather products are durable, consistent, and industry-compliant.

What skills and qualifications are needed for leather technology?
