Job description

Overview
The Office of Academic Excellence at New York Medical College is hiring Peer Learning Partners (PLP). PLPs are hired for the academic year, July 1 through June 30, and require a one-hour minimum and five-hour maximum commitment per week. Anatomy lab PLPs have a five-hour commitment per week. PLPs are responsible for providing one-on-one tutoring support and may assist as mentors, Jumpstart Educators, and/or writing tutors. PLPs may be asked to participate in OAE events such as tabling and discussion panels. PLPs evaluations consist of student, faculty, and staff feedback. PLPs who experience academic challenges may be removed from PLP responsibilities to ensure successful remediation of coursework.
Responsibilities
  • One-on-one tutoring for specific courses and clinical skills
  • Collaborating with students to identify and target areas of improvement
  • Preparing for upcoming exams with students & providing strategies/coaching regarding overthinking exam materials and changing exam answers
  • Suggesting active and engaging learning, exam strategies, & study strategies to break down intensive exam content while building critical thinking skills, connecting concepts, problem-solving, & analyzing data
  • Offering checkpoints/practice questions throughout the meeting to gauge student understanding of the material assessed
  • Attend professional development as offered
  • May assist as a mentor to students experiencing academic challenges
  • May assist as a Jumpstart Educator to students experiencing challenges on Step 1, Step 2 CK, NBME, and other required board exams
  • May assist with exam preparation workshops
  • May assist with events such as tabling events and discussion panels
  • May provide writing tutoring support

Qualifications
  • Must be able to communicate detailed information (written & verbal).
  • Knowledge of Zoom required.
  • Access to internet and device with a camera is required for Zoom tutoring sessions.
  • Adherence to NYMC policies and OAE protocols, including professionalism, are imperative.

Maximum Salary
USD $19.00/Hr.
Minimum Salary
USD $17.00/Hr.
