The Office of Academic Excellence at New York Medical College & Touro College of Dental Medicine is hiring student Peer Learning Partners (PLP). PLP Tutors are responsible for providing one-on-one tutoring support for select students and scheduling ongoing weekly meetings to ensure peer-to-peer consistency. Opportunities to assist the Associate Director, TCDM & Clinical Graduate Programs at NYMC with PLP-Led events are also offered throughout the academic year. PLP tutors are hired for a full academic year and PLP tutor success will be evaluated by student/faculty/staff feedback. The position will be a one (1) hour minimum commitment per week, five (5) hour maximum commitment per week.

Responsibilities
  • One-on-one tutoring in specific chosen didactic subjects
  • Collaborating with students to identify and target weak areas
  • Preparing for upcoming exams with students & providing strategies/coaching regarding overthinking exam material and changing exam answers
  • Suggesting active and engaging learning, exam strategies, & study strategies to break down intensive exam content while building critical thinking skills, connecting concepts, problem-solving, & analyzing data
  • Offering checkpoints/practice questions throughout the meeting to gauge student understanding of the material assessed
QualificationsEducation/Experience
  • Must be in good academic standing; (i.e. not in remediation and have attained course grades of 85% or higher in classes relevant to tutoring subject areas).
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled at Touro College of Dental Medicine.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Must be able to communicate detailed information (written & verbal).
  • Knowledge of Zoom required.
  • Access to internet and device with a camera is required for Zoom tutoring sessions.
  • Reliability is a must (i.e. all hired PLPs must inform their supervisor in advance if they will be unable to the tutoring session assigned to them).

**Please note that hourly rates for first-time PLP tutors will differ from those of returning PLP tutors.
