Job description

SAPA Transmission is seeking an experienced Senior CNC Machinist to join our 2nd Shift manufacturing team. In this role, you'll produce high-precision transmission components used in U.S. Army tracked vehicles, helping support the performance and reliability of mission-critical military equipment.

Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Shift Premium: Additional 5% pay

What You'll Do
  • Set up and operate multi-axis machining centers and mill-turn equipment with Fanuc, Mazatrol, and Siemens Sinumerik controls to manufacture transmission housings, housing covers, piston housings, gears, splines, and related components.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and NC programs to ensure compliance with production requirements.
  • Monitor tool life and tool wear, making cutter compensation adjustments and replacing tooling as needed.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
  • Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify compliance with quality standards.
  • Document and report deviations, defects, and inspection results.
  • Identify and implement process improvements using lean manufacturing principles to increase productivity and reduce waste.
  • Mentor and train junior machinists and machine operators on machining best practices, safety procedures, and efficient machine operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of production runs, machine settings, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with engineers, CNC programmers, production planners, and production personnel to resolve issues and meet manufacturing goals.
  • Troubleshoot CNC programs and machining issues on the shop floor.
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of CNC machining experience, including machine setup and operation.
  • Proficiency operating multi-axis mills, mill-turns, lathes, and other machining equipment.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and G-Code NC programs.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
  • Experience machining aluminum, mild steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel.
  • Knowledge of machining safety regulations and best practices.
Preferred
  • Technical certification or associate degree in machining or a related field.
  • Experience with Makino, Mazak, and Heller machining centers.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Mazatrol, and Siemens Sinumerik controls.
  • Familiarity with Zoller equipment and TMS software.
  • Experience with Fastems Automation and MMS software.
  • Previous leadership, training, or mentoring experience.
