Job description

Product Specialist

As a Product Specialist, you will serve as the product champion for Okuma machine tools, partnering closely with sales teams, distributors, and customers to drive product knowledge, sales effectiveness, and market success.

This role is ideal for a technically minded professional who enjoys sharing knowledge, developing training content, analyzing market trends, and supporting sales initiatives. As a key member of the sales support organization, you will help ensure that both Okuma and distributor sales teams have the tools, training, and competitive insights needed to build customer confidence and achieve business objectives.

How You'll Make an ImpactProduct Expertise & Sales Enablement
  • Continuously develop and maintain expert-level knowledge of Okuma machine tool features, capabilities, and applications.
  • Create and maintain sales tools, presentations, product resources, and support materials used during customer visits, training sessions, meetings, and events.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for the Okuma and distributor sales organizations.
Training & Content Development
  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging product training programs for distributor sales personnel.
  • Create educational content that enhances product understanding and supports sales effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve training materials and learning experiences based on field feedback and market needs.
Market & Competitive Analysis
  • Collaborate with analysts and regional teams to identify industry trends, customer needs, and market opportunities.
  • Evaluate competitor products and provide detailed competitive analyses to support sales strategy and product positioning.
  • Translate market intelligence into actionable recommendations that strengthen Okuma's competitive advantage.
Field Support & Customer Engagement
  • Travel to distributor locations to conduct educational training sessions and product demonstrations.
  • Partner with distributor sales teams on customer visits and sales calls, providing product expertise and technical support.
  • Support distributor open houses, trade events, and customer-focused activities.
  • Assist with Okuma America open houses, events, and promotional initiatives.
Communication & Reporting
  • Provide weekly and monthly updates on projects, activities, travel, and key initiatives.
  • Maintain clear communication with internal stakeholders regarding progress, opportunities, and market feedback.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and contribute additional value beyond assigned responsibilities.
Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and workplace safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational goals.
Preferred Qualifications & SkillsEducation
  • Trade School or Technical School training required.
  • Associate Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Business, or a related field preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in manufacturing, machine tools, industrial equipment, technical sales support, training, product management, or a related field.
  • Experience working with CNC machine tools or advanced manufacturing technologies is strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong presentation, training, and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience developing training materials and sales support content.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and machine tool applications.
  • Ability to interpret market trends and competitive information.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently to support distributors, customers, and company events.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and business reporting tools.

Travel Requirement: 50% travel required to support distributor training, customer visits, sales activities, and company-sponsored events.
