Job description

 

Job Title: Youth Development Manager

Job Category: Full Time / Year Round

Reports To: BSCO Operations Manager 

Supervises: All Youth Program Staff, Counselors, and volunteers

Responsibilities: Oversight of all youth programming for the BSCO & BASE

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Youth Programs Manager is responsible for managing the administration and operations of programs for ages 0-18, including but not limited to: Camp Big Sky, after school programs, PIR and out of school days, youth athletics, and youth enrichment. In addition to Youth Program oversight, the Youth Programs Manager will also be responsible for helping to launch our new Community Campus in the park and for driving the future direction for youth programs.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform these essential duties satisfactorily: 

Strategic Programming   

● Develop year-round programming that engages youth in recreation and enrichment opportunities. 

● Develop and manage programming and curriculum that engages children to thrive through spaces intended for education and exploration.   

● Develop weekly schedules for staffing and activities, while coordinating all logistics.   

● When needed, serve as Camp Big Sky staff directly supervising children with a creative, fun and positive attitude. 

● Directly supervise and lead children during specialty and after school programming.   

● Coordinate all facility and transportation logistics within BSCO assets/programs. 

● Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents, program participants, and community members.   

● Work with the Programs Committee to support the direction and vision of BSCO program growth. 

Administration

● Manage youth program registration in coordination with the BASE administrative staff, Recreation Manager, and Programs Director using Recreation Software. 

● Maintain and purchase all necessary program and facility supplies.  

● Set up, maintain, and take down all Camp Big Sky supplies and yurt facilities.   

● Maintain all necessary forms including but not limited to program records, contact information, and signed incident and enrollment forms. 

● Track participant enrollment. Check and report rosters daily. 

● Provide all marketing and communications details with the Communications team.   

● Maintain and purchase all necessary program supplies. 

● Assist the Operations Director with development of budgets for each individual program so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. 

● Assure compliance with state and local regulations.  Ensure that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed. 

● Assist in providing stats, stories, and budget to Development team as grants request information. 

● Facilitate program advisory committees as needed, such as Scholarship Committee and Base Operations Committee 

Staff Management 

● Leads staff and volunteers to ensure best practice guidelines are being followed, program standards are met, and safety policies and protocol are being followed.   

● Lead in the hiring, recruiting, training, developing and evaluation of all staff and volunteers with the support of the Operations Director.   

Other 

● Work with BSCO staff on fundraising initiatives, community events or other collective programs or signature events. 

● Assume other duties as assigned to support BSCO or as needed by the Operations Director and/or CEO. 

EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE AND SKILLS

● Must hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field   

● 3-5 years direct experience working with youth   

● Experience leading others and managing a team   

● Experience in environmental education, youth programs, camp management or related field 

● Background in teaching school-aged youth in non-standard environments 

● Hold skills in outdoor activities; including hiking and team sports 

● CPR and First Aid certification and training preferred. 

● Combination of education and experience will be considered 

● Computer proficiency including email communication, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, digital photo downloading and sharing, database management, and ability and willingness to learn other software as needed.
