Are you passionate about creating welcoming experiences, building relationships, and helping people feel connected to their community? The Plaistow YMCA is seeking a Member Engagement Director to lead membership growth, engagement strategies, and exceptional member experiences.
As a key member of the YMCA leadership team, the Member Engagement Director plays a vital role in strengthening relationships with members, families, staff, and community partners. This position oversees membership engagement efforts, leads a frontline member services team, supports recruitment and retention strategies, and ensures every interaction reflects the YMCA's commitment to healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility.
This highly visible role serves as a champion for the YMCA within the community, creating opportunities to connect individuals and families with programs, services, and resources that help them thrive.
What You'll Do
Member Engagement & Experience
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment where members and guests feel valued, connected, and supported.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase member engagement, retention, and overall satisfaction.
  • Build meaningful relationships with members through consistent outreach, personal connections, and exceptional customer service.
  • Plan and support member events, programs, and engagement opportunities that strengthen community connections.
  • Partner with association membership leadership to support strategies that drive growth and community impact.
Frontline Team Leadership
  • Lead, train, coach, and support the Welcome Center team to deliver outstanding service experiences.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, professional development, and recognition to support staff success.
  • Maintain effective Welcome Center coverage and scheduling to ensure exceptional service during peak times.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team culture aligned with YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Membership Growth & Community Outreach
  • Drive membership recruitment through lead follow-up, outreach strategies, local marketing initiatives, and community partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities to increase YMCA awareness and participation within the community.
  • Develop relationships with local organizations, businesses, schools, and community groups to expand YMCA impact.
  • Represent the YMCA as a welcoming community resource and advocate for its mission.
Data Management & Performance Tracking
  • Maintain accurate membership records and ensure data integrity within YMCA systems.
  • Monitor membership trends, engagement activity, and key performance indicators to support decision-making.
  • Generate reports and analyze data to identify opportunities for recruitment, retention, and improved member experience.
  • Use insights to develop strategies that support membership goals and organizational priorities.
