Job description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Before and After School Care (Y BASE) Site Supervisor is a year-round position that will be responsible for the guidance and direction of Before and After School Care Programming during the school year and transition to camp programming in the summer months.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and actively participate in daily activities for youth before and after school.
  2. Serve as a role model to staff and participants and act as the on-site supervisor of the Y BASE staff, and camp programs when applicable.
  3. During the summer months will be assigned a leadership role for day camp.
  4. Manage all materials and supplies needed for planned activities and maintain quality of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  5. Develop positive relationships will the staff, families, and children while providing motivational support and guidance, including parent conferences and handling complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem solving techniques.
  6. Build a professional collaboration with local school district administration and staff to develop programming that aligns with district values, policies, and procedures.
  7. Maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department requirements.
  8. Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
  9. Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County's emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations.
  10. Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
  11. Follow all relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families, Young Star, or other regulatory agencies.
  12. Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  13. Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age and have and have 240 hours of experience in an approved education setting.
  2. Must have completed high school or equivalent.
  3. Must meet all Child Care Licensing requirements including on of the following: 2 DCF-approved courses in early childhood education (credit or non-credit) or the school-age equivalent; 48 credits from an institution of higher education with at least 3 credits in early childhood education or school-age growth and development; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education; a Child Development Association credential; or otherwise qualified as a School-Age Program Leader through The Wisconsin Registry.
  4. Minimum of 240 hours of related experience working with early childhood or school-aged children in an approved setting.
  5. Must be able and willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, Mandated Reporter, Wisconsin Child Care Registry certification, and additional non-credit coursework (as needed) within specified time frame.
  6. Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  8. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  9. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  10. Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. and work indoors and outdoors; must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children; see and hear well enough to keep children safe; and engage in physical activity with children.
