How much do yield scientific jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 5, 2026, the average yearly pay for yield scientific in the United States is $48,391.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $38,500.00 and $52,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Yield Scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Yield Scientist, you need a strong background in agronomy, plant biology, data analysis, and often a relevant degree such as agronomy, biology, or agricultural science. Familiarity with statistical software, field trial management systems, and laboratory instrumentation is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help in designing experiments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These capabilities are vital for optimizing crop yields, driving research innovation, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.

What is a Yield Scientist?

A Yield Scientist is a professional who specializes in analyzing and improving crop yields, typically within the agricultural sector. They use scientific methods, data analysis, and field trials to evaluate factors that impact crop production, such as genetics, soil health, fertilizers, and environmental conditions. Their work helps farmers and agricultural companies maximize productivity and sustainability while minimizing resource use and environmental impact. Yield Scientists often collaborate with agronomists, biotechnologists, and other specialists to develop and implement strategies for improved crop performance.

What is the difference between Yield Scientific vs Laboratory Technician?

AspectYield Scientific
CertificationsTypically requires a degree in science or engineering; certifications in quality control or laboratory practices are common
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, manufacturing facilities, or quality assurance settings
Employer & IndustryPharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, and manufacturing industries
Job FocusData analysis, process optimization, and scientific research

Laboratory Technicians also work in labs, focusing on sample testing, data recording, and equipment maintenance. While both roles require scientific knowledge, Yield Scientific professionals often engage more in process improvement and data analysis, whereas Laboratory Technicians focus on hands-on testing and sample preparation.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Yield Scientific role typically involves research and data analysis in scientific fields, which may require specialized knowledge but not necessarily a degree. High-paying scientific or technical positions often depend on experience, skills, and certifications rather than formal education alone, and some roles in research, consulting, or technical sales can reach or exceed $10,000 monthly income.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Yield Science roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Yield Science often encounter challenges such as managing large datasets from multiple sources, accurately modeling crop performance, and adapting to rapidly changing agricultural technologies. Collaborating closely with agronomists, data analysts, and field technicians is essential to ensure findings are actionable and aligned with operational goals. Staying updated on the latest analytical tools and fostering strong cross-functional communication can help address these challenges and drive successful outcomes in yield optimization projects.

Job description

About Samsung Austin Semiconductor
Samsung is a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, founded on the belief that the pursuit of excellence creates a better world. At Samsung Austin Semiconductor, we are Innovating Today to Power the Devices of Tomorrow.

Come innovate with us!

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced yield engineer to drive yield excellence across advanced semiconductor technologies, from development through high-volume manufacturing. This role requires deep expertise in yield analysis, defect characterization, and cross-functional problem solving to accelerate yield ramp.

Role and Responsibilities

Here's What You'll Be Responsible For:

  • Yield Analysis & Improvement
    • Own end-to-end yield performance across wafer sort, parametric test, and final test
    • Perform advanced data mining and statistical analysis to identify yield limiters and drive improvement actions
    • Generate yield detractors and correlate yield to electrical, inline, and defect data
  • Process & Technology Optimization
    • Collaborate with process integration and module teams to reduce variability and improve process windows
    • Define and execute defect reduction strategies. Partner with Module and Process Integration engineers to solve complex critical defect issues.
    • Support technology launch, ramp, and transfer across nodes and fab
  • Root Cause & Failure Analysis
    • Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies
    • Partner with FA teams (EFA/PFA) to correlate physical defects with electrical signatures
    • Collaborate with Design and Product teams to ensure manufacturability and resolve layout-dependent yield issues before mass production ramp.
    • Drive containment and corrective actions for yield excursions
  • Data Science & Modeling
    • Apply statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling to yield datasets
    • Develop automated analytics pipelines (Python, JMP, SQL)
    • Develop and maintain sophisticated yield models
  • Yield Management
    • Define yield roadmap, KPIs, and improvement strategy
    • Lead task forces for major yield excursions
    • Mentor junior engineers and establish best practices
    • Interface with executive leadership on yield health and risks

Skills and Qualifications

Here's what you'll need:

  • B.E. M.Sc., or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Applied Physics, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in semiconductor yield or process integration.
  • Foundry Background: Direct experience at a leading-edge fab focusing on FinFET or Gate-All-Around (GAA) architectures.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics, wafer fabrication, and transistor performance and semiconductor process (Lithography, Etch, CMP, PVD/CVD).
  • Coding skills for data manipulation (Python, SQL).
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software (Spotifre, JMP, Related python library).
  • Experience with advanced nodes (< 3nm).
  • Proactive and organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting to "home teams" and global stakeholders.
  • Cross-functional leadership and communication
  • Strong business acumen (yield cost cycle time)
  • Knowledge of SRAM and Vmin analysis and bit-mapping techniques.
