Job description

Yahoo serves as a trusted guide for hundreds of millions of people globally, helping them achieve their goals online through our portfolio of iconic products. For advertisers, Yahoo Advertising offers omnichannel solutions and powerful data to engage with our brands and deliver results.

A Little About Us

Our Consumer Platforms team is the foundational engine of this transformation, building the unified systems (profiles, navigation, video, and more) that allow our users to move seamlessly through the Yahoo ecosystem with intelligence and ease.

About the Role

As a Senior Product Designer for Consumer Platforms, you are a systems-minded architect of the Yahoo experience. You will lead the evolution of shared frameworks that scale across all Yahoo products, enabling vertical-specific teams to build on top of a world-class foundation. This is a highly visible role where you will work independently in a complex, ambiguous environment, partnering with Senior Principal designers on cross-cutting initiatives. We are looking for an AI-native designer who doesn't just use AI to speed up work, but as a core medium to make our platform more personal, adaptive, and useful.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve shared platform frameworks (e.g., profiles, headers, navigation, video, and community systems) that scale across Yahoo's consumer products.

  • Architect cohesive, end-to-end user experiences that unify Yahoo's ecosystem while enabling flexibility for product-specific innovation.

  • Lead the modernization of core systems, leveraging AI-driven insights to improve performance, usability, and consistency across platforms.

  • Translate complex system requirements and information architectures into intuitive, elegant user experiences with master-level visual and interaction design.

  • Use AI-powered tools and workflows to rapidly explore concepts, generate alternatives, and create interactive prototypes throughout the design process.

  • Embed AI thoughtfully into product experiences to enable smarter, more personalized, and more useful user interactions.

  • Prototype early and often-at multiple levels of fidelity-using AI-assisted tools to test ideas, validate system behaviors, and communicate design intent.

  • Utilize AI for research synthesis and data analysis to inform platform-level decisions and identify emerging user patterns.

  • Advocate for accessibility, usability, and inclusive design across all shared systems and components.

  • Partner with engineering to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions that support long-term platform evolution.

  • Present work clearly and confidently to senior leadership, articulating system-level thinking and design rationales grounded in AI-forward principles.

  • Contribute to and evolve shared design systems, patterns, and frameworks across the broader Yahoo organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, HCI, Visual Communication, or a related field

  • 4+ years of experience designing digital products, specifically within large-scale platforms or multi-product ecosystems.

  • Must be located within the EST or CST time zones.

  • AI-native in your workflow, with a required proficiency in AI-assisted design tools (e.g., Figma AI, Gemini, Midjourney) for exploration and iteration.

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong systems thinking, high-quality visual and interaction design, and a record of shipped products.

  • Deep expertise in Figma and modern prototyping tools.

  • Demonstrated experience working independently with guidance only in complex situations (IC4 level).

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and accessibility standards.

  • Excellent collaboration and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing "agentic" interfaces or AI-driven personalization systems at scale.

  • A focus on exercising judgment in how AI enhances the user experience rather than just speeding up design execution.

  • Experience in the media, technology, or finance industries navigating complex consumer platforms.

  • A commitment to continuous learning and the proactive suggestion of new AI-driven design methodologies.
