What is an xcel job?

Xcel jobs typically refer to employment opportunities at Xcel Energy, a major U.S. electricity and natural gas company. These positions can include roles in engineering, operations, customer service, information technology, and more. Employees at Xcel Energy help deliver reliable energy services to millions of customers across multiple states. Working at Xcel Energy often involves a focus on safety, innovation, and sustainability in the energy sector.

What are some common challenges faced by Xcel Energy field technicians, and how can new hires prepare for them?

Field technicians at Xcel Energy often work in varying weather conditions and must adapt to changing schedules due to emergency repairs or outages. New hires may find it challenging to quickly learn the company's safety protocols and operate specialized equipment in real-world scenarios. Building strong communication skills is essential, as technicians regularly coordinate with dispatchers, engineers, and other field teams. Preparing through hands-on training, studying safety guidelines, and staying physically fit can help new employees succeed in this dynamic role.

Familiarity with advanced Excel features such as PivotTables, macros, and integration with other Microsoft Office tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and strong communication help Excel Specialists interpret data and collaborate with stakeholders. These abilities are crucial for ensuring accurate data analysis and effective reporting to support business decisions.

This applies across both our Developmental and Xcel competitive programs. This means being encouraging, energetic, and supportive with every athlete and parent. Each ‘Team Coach’ should know how to run a practice from start to finish, master required skill progressions whether foundational developmental tracks or customized Xcel routines and communicate effectively regarding athlete progress and competitive goals. Coaches must teach proper skill progressions, foster a positive environment, and keep athletes active through dynamic drills and conditioning.

A ‘Team Coach’s’ goal for each athlete should be to perfectly balance technical skill development, physical conditioning, and fun. Each coach should safely spot and teach skills for their assigned levels, maintain class discipline, and follow all USAG and administrative policies that apply to the ‘Team Coach’ position.

Requirements:Requirements
  • Current USA Gymnastics (USAG) Professional/Member Registration & SafeSport Certification
  • 2 hour ‘New Hope Gymnastics Orientation’ training
  • 16 hours of individual training with a ‘Lead Team Coach’ or ‘Team Program Director’
  • Knowledge of all current:
    • ‘USAG & New Hope Body Shaping Fundamentals’
    • ‘Developmental & Xcel Event Skill Progressions’
    • ‘Xcel & Developmental Compulsory/Optional Routines and Code Rules’

    Your role will include:

  • Teaching gymnastics for our Developmental and Xcel competitive team athletes
  • Leading energetic, structured practices that keep gymnasts focused, conditioning, and progressing
  • Using our New Hope coaching methods to teach skill progressions, encourage discipline, and build routine consistency
  • Maintaining a safe, highly technical, and positive training environment at all times
  • Communicating regularly with parents regarding their athlete’s growth, skill milestones, and competitive goals
  • Collaborating with team directors and fellow coaches to foster a supportive, unified team culture
  • Participating in occasional meets, team events, staff meetings, or special programs as needed
  • Completing a 24-hour short-term temporary assignment (6 hours shadowing and 10 hours co-leading) upon passing the interview process to assess performance during initial training (completion does not guarantee a regular offer)
  • Perks: Free food, free access to training equipment and open gyms
  • We’re here to support you every step of the way — if you’re coachable, passionate, and committed, we’ll help you develop into a confident and inspiring team coach.
