Position Summary

The SEC Reporting Manager will be responsible for managing the preparation and filing of periodic SEC reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and SEC regulations, and overseeing technical accounting research related to external reporting matters. This role requires strong technical accounting expertise, project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced reporting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of the company's 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other SEC filings
  • Coordinate the quarterly and annual financial statement close and reporting process, including drafting footnote disclosures and MD&A sections
  • Ensure compliance with SEC rules, GAAP, and other regulatory reporting requirements, including XBRL tagging
  • Research and document technical accounting issues under current ASC guidance, preparing position papers and memos as needed
  • Partner with external auditors to manage the quarterly review and annual audit process related to external reporting
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, investor relations, treasury, and FP&A teams to gather information necessary for SEC filings
  • Monitor SEC and FASB rule changes, assessing impact on the company's reporting and disclosure requirements
  • Assist with the preparation of earnings releases, investor presentations, and other external communications as needed
  • Support proxy statement preparation and other periodic filings as applicable
  • Maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting in compliance with SOX requirements
  • Manage and mentor staff involved in the SEC reporting process, providing coaching and development
  • Assist with special projects, including debt or equity offerings, M&A-related disclosures, and new accounting standard implementations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA required
  • 6-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and/or SEC reporting experience within a public company
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and SOX compliance
  • Experience with XBRL tagging and disclosure management software (Workiva, or similar) strongly preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting matters for non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Attributes

  • Prior experience managing or reviewing the work of staff or senior-level reporting accountants
  • Experience with a publicly traded REIT or financial services company a plus
  • Experience supporting capital markets transactions (debt/equity offerings, comfort letters) a plus
  • Strong track record of managing external audit relationships and driving reporting process efficiency
