Job Summary
This is a full-time position in Diagnostic Imaging to obtain high quality diagnostic images for both our small and large animal hospitals using various imaging modalities. The candidate for this position should be a person trained as a radiologic Technologist (preferred) or a Veterinary Technician with strong interest in Diagnostic Imaging.
Essential Job Duties
  • Primary job responsibility will be to obtain diagnostic quality images in the diagnostic imaging clinical service using radiography, fluoroscopy and computed tomography.
  • Assist with instructing students for proper positioning and technique to obtain diagnostic quality images using various modalities.
  • Participate in daily clinical activities in the diagnostic imaging service and after-hours emergency/on-call duty as needed.
  • Diagnostic imaging service is provided to both large animal and small animal hospitals in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, other departments and referring veterinarians.
  • Participate in evaluation of veterinary students.
  • Assist in patient positioning and restraint during imaging procedures and during teaching labs.
  • Ensure proper data entries into the imaging software and ensure transfer of images to our PACS.
  • Participate in imaging research or studies as required.
  • Maintain clinical areas to ensure safe work environment for patients, students and other hospital personnel.
  • Assist with steady imaging workflow.
  • Keep an inventory of supplies in the imaging area and assist with new purchases and placing orders as required.
  • Expected to participate in section meetings or hospital meetings as required.
  • Assist in routine maintenance of imaging equipment, servicing and safety inspections as required.
  • Be able to troubleshoot the imaging equipment with required assistance.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited veterinary medical technology program or equivalent with strong interest in Diagnostic Imaging
    • Eligible for licensure in the state of Alabama.
  • Must have one year experience of working in Radiology and be able to independently operate the X-ray machines, fluoroscopy machine and the Computed Tomography machine.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to walk short distances
  • Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items
  • Ability to view a computer terminal
