A day in the life...

 The Maitre D' / Sommelier serves as the face of the restaurant, creating exceptional guest experiences through personalized service, table management, and expert wine knowledge. This position is responsible for welcoming and seating guests, managing reservations, overseeing the dining room experience, and providing professional wine recommendations, pairings, and service that enhance the overall dining experience. 

Requirements

 Guest Experience & Dining Room Leadership 

  • Greet and welcome guests in a warm, professional, and engaging manner. 
  • Manage reservations, seating arrangements, and table assignments to maximize guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. 
  • Maintain a visible presence in the dining room, ensuring service standards are consistently upheld. 
  • Address guest concerns promptly and professionally. 
  • Develop relationships with repeat guests and VIPs. 
  • Collaborate with management and service teams to create memorable dining experiences. 
  • Open and close restaurant 5 nights per week as well as duties that this will entail. 

Wine Program & Sommelier Responsibilities 

  • Maintain expert knowledge of the restaurant's wine list as well as assist in creating said list. 
  • Recommend wines based on guest preferences, menu selections, and food pairings. 
  • Present, open, and serve wines according to proper service standards. 
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the wine program. 
  • Monitor wine storage conditions and inventory. 
  • Conduct wine training and educational sessions for service staff. 

Operations & Compliance 

  • Ensure compliance with all alcohol service laws and responsible beverage service practices. 
  • Support inventory counts and beverage cost controls. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization standards. 
  • Assist with special events, wine dinners, and promotional activities. 

Qualifications 

  • 3-5 years of Upscale dining experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of wine, spirits, and food pairings. 
  • Certified Sommelier designation preferred or WSET Level 2 or higher. 
  • Exceptional guest service and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Stand and walk for extended periods. 
  • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds. 
  • Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism. 

Certification Requirement 

Must possess, at a minimum, a Level 1 or Level 2 Sommelier certification from a recognized wine education organization.
