They are responsible for assigning projects, editing and reviewing drafts, and providing feedback to writers. Additionally, Writing Managers often collaborate with other departments, develop content strategies, and help maintain a consistent brand voice across all materials. How does a writing manager typically balance editing responsibilities with leading their team?

A Writing Manager often splits their time between hands-on editing and overseeing the writing team’s workflow. This structure helps maintain high-quality output while supporting professional development among team members.

To thrive as a Writing Manager, you need advanced writing and editing skills, experience in content strategy, and often a bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), project management tools, and editorial style guides is typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills help you guide teams and manage multiple projects effectively. These abilities ensure content quality, team productivity, and consistent delivery of messaging aligned with organizational goals.
