What are wraparound services?

Wraparound services are a team-based, holistic approach to supporting children, youth, and families with complex needs. These services coordinate resources from multiple systems—such as mental health, education, child welfare, and juvenile justice—to create a customized plan that addresses the unique strengths and challenges of each family. The process is highly collaborative and involves the family in every step, aiming to keep children safely at home and in their communities whenever possible. Wraparound services help ensure that care is well-coordinated, culturally competent, and focused on achieving positive outcomes.

How does a wraparound specialist typically collaborate with families and service providers to support clients’ needs?

Wraparound Specialists work closely with families, clients, and a network of service providers to develop and implement individualized care plans. They facilitate regular team meetings to ensure everyone’s input is heard and coordinate communication among schools, mental health professionals, and social services. This collaborative approach helps address the unique needs of each client, fosters trust, and ensures that services are well-coordinated. Building strong relationships and maintaining open lines of communication are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a wraparound facilitator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Wraparound Facilitator, you need a background in social work, counseling, or a related human services field, often supported by a relevant degree and experience with case management. Familiarity with documentation software, electronic case management systems, and sometimes certification in Wraparound or strength-based approaches is important. Strong interpersonal communication, cultural competence, and problem-solving skills help you build trust and coordinate effectively with youth, families, and service providers.
