What is a worst warehouse?

The term 'Worst Warehouse' is not a standard job title in the logistics or supply chain industry. It may refer informally to a warehouse with poor working conditions, inefficient operations, or low employee satisfaction. In general, warehouse jobs involve tasks like receiving, storing, and shipping goods, maintaining inventory, and ensuring safety standards. If you are looking for information on warehouse positions, it is best to search for roles such as warehouse associate, warehouse worker, or warehouse manager.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a warehouse worker?

To thrive as a Warehouse Worker, you need physical stamina, basic math skills, attention to detail, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with inventory management systems, barcode scanners, forklifts, and safety certifications like OSHA are typically required. Strong teamwork, time management, and communication skills help individuals excel in fast-paced and collaborative environments. These abilities are crucial for maintaining efficient operations, ensuring safety, and minimizing errors in warehouse settings.

What are some common challenges faced by warehouse associates and how can they be addressed?

Warehouse associates often encounter challenges such as managing high workloads during peak seasons, maintaining safety standards in a fast-paced environment, and adapting to new inventory technologies. To address these, many warehouses provide ongoing safety training, encourage teamwork to distribute tasks efficiently, and offer guidance for learning new systems. Additionally, clear communication with supervisors and colleagues helps ensure issues are resolved quickly, creating a more supportive and productive workplace.

Description

Warehouse Associate

Conklin Metal Industries | Nashville Branch 1150 Antioch Pike, Suite 250, Nashville, TN

This Is Not Your Average Warehouse Job

If you take pride in doing things right, know your way around a forklift, and want to work somewhere that will invest in your future, keep reading.

Conklin Metal Industries has been in business since 1874 and is still family owned and operated. We distribute sheet metal, HVAC, and duct fabrication supplies from 17 warehouses across the Southeast. Our Nashville branch is looking for a Warehouse Associate who is ready to show up, work hard, and grow with us.

We mean that last part. Warehouse Associates at Conklin have gone on to become Shipping Leads, Receiving Leads, Warehouse Managers, Inside Sales Representatives, Branch Managers, and Operations Managers. If you want a path, we have one. But it starts on the warehouse floor, and it starts with doing the basics exceptionally well.

Location and Commute

We are located at 1150 Antioch Pike, Suite 250, Nashville, TN, in the Antioch area off I-24 on the south side of Nashville. If you are commuting from Antioch, Smyrna, Murfreesboro, Brentwood, or the surrounding South Nashville area, you are in a great location. Our 7:00 AM start time also helps you get in and out ahead of the worst Nashville traffic.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Receive and verify incoming shipments against invoices, checking for accuracy and product condition
  • Pull, stage, pack, and load outgoing deliveries and branch transfers without damaging product
  • Load and secure trucks in accordance with DOT and Conklin standards
  • Organize and maintain stock on shelving, bins, and overhangs according to company standards
  • Monitor inventory and report discrepancies to management
  • Operate a forklift safely as a regular part of your daily work
  • Keep the warehouse clean, organized, and safe
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time

Who We're Looking For

The people who thrive here tend to share a few things in common. They are detail-oriented and take quality seriously. They can work independently without needing to be watched, but they also understand what it means to be a dependable teammate. They move with a sense of urgency, take ownership of their work, and do not leave things half-finished.

You're probably a strong fit if you:

  • Have hands-on forklift experience and can operate one confidently and safely every day
  • Have at least two years of warehouse experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Pay close attention to detail, particularly when it comes to shipping and receiving accuracy
  • Have inventory-control experience, although this is preferred rather than required
  • Take safety seriously and consistently follow established procedures
  • Can lift 50 pounds or more and maintain a high level of physical activity throughout your shift
  • Are comfortable working in variable temperatures and occasionally adjusting your schedule based on workload
  • Are dependable, coachable, and looking for a company where you can build a future

Forklift certification is preferred. A strong work ethic is required.

Please Note: Any offer of employment will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screen. The drug screen includes testing for marijuana.

Schedule and Compensation

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Overtime available based on workload
  • Weekly pay through direct deposit

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) options
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Paid Time Off
  • 10 Company-Paid Holidays
  • Employee Referral Program

Our Interview Process

  1. A brief phone interview to get to know you and answer your questions about the position
  2. A five-minute online behavioral assessment through the Predictive Index to help us understand how you work and what type of environment brings out your best
  3. An onsite interview with the Branch Manager at our Nashville branch
  4. If an offer is extended, completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screen, including testing for marijuana, will be required before starting.
