The University of Miami/UHealth Laboratories Department has an exciting opportunity for Courier in Miami.

SUMMARY

The Courier delivers various kinds of documents, packages, and messages between offices or departments. This position also travels to off-site locations when necessary to complete assigned deliveries.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Delivers documents, packages and/or messages to their destination.
  • Receives documents, materials, and information requiring delivery.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times during the course of delivery and thereafter.
  • Plans and follows the most efficient routes for delivering goods.
  • Sorts items for delivery, according to delivery route.
  • Obtains signatures for pertinent information, upon delivery.
  • Maintains records of items received and delivered, as well as the recipient.
  • Remains accessible at all times via telephone, email or pager.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid FL Driver's license

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Department Specific Functions

  • Pickup and delivery of pathology specimens, and other items to doctors, hospitals, and staff.
  • Ensure the safe and timely transport of specimens.
  • Hand-deliver specimens.
  • Log specimen & other items transported and ensure recipients sign for delivery.
  • Make sure pathology specimens are correctly stowed.
  • Report golf cart maintenance needs.
  • Accurately count and take inventory of medical items to be collected or delivered.
  • Always maintains professional attitude and appearance.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Safe driving skills.
  • Perform all duties within HIPAA regulations.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
