ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world's greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.

Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.

POSITION SUMMARY:

World Relief is seeking a Financial Literacy Specialist to support World Relief Western Washington's efforts to promote financial agency and self-sufficiency among refugees and immigrants. This position will support refugee and immigrant families in increasing financial literacy and knowledge. This position will provide support through both one-on-one financial counseling sessions and financial literacy workshops. This position will adapt and develop curriculum and financial literacy materials to address community barriers to financial self-sufficiency. This will include developing creative methods to increase participants' understanding of responsible financial planning and practices for long-term success. A competitive candidate should possess or seek a holistic understanding of both the program and the World Relief Western Washington office structure in order to best organize and provide these services.ย

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assess the current financial situation of participants by creating and completing individualized budgets with program participants. ย 
  • Provide information and referral services to assist participants in identifying and understanding financial, social, housing, and medical resources ย 
  • Provide one-on-one financial counseling sessions to set goals, assess progress, and address ongoing barriers towards participants' self-sufficiency and long-term financial objectives ย 
  • Oversee and coordinate the Youth Financial Literacy Program with the Children and Families team ย 
  • Maintain accurate records of financial counseling, information and referral services, budgets, workshops, attendance, and other documentation in databases ย 
  • Create, prepare, and process programmatic paperwork ย 
  • Research and develop new financial education curriculum and materials ย 
  • Develop relationships with community partners to enhance cultural and resource navigation ย 
  • Conduct financial literacy orientations on topics including taxes, credit, banking, and budgeting ย 
  • Monitor and evaluate financial literacy programming ย 
  • Complete necessary reporting requirements ย  ย 
  • Maintain firm boundaries and manage difficult conversations around money in a culturally competent way ย 
  • Develop and coordinate new pilots and programs as team capacity allows, and in accordance with WRWW's strategic plan ย 
  • Coordinate with and train other staff members across teams in all WRWW locations in providing financial literacy and other related services ย 
  • Coordinate and oversee tasks with volunteers and interns ย 
  • Participate in bi-weekly CENT meetings ย  Other related tasks as assignedย 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
  • Valid drivers license, access to reliable vehicle and ability to pass MVR standardsย 
  • Authorization to legally work in the USย 
  • Desire to serve refugees in support of the overall mission of World Relief
  • Exceptional organizational / time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects at one timeย 
  • Self-motivated worker with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and creativity
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English ย  ย 
  • Intermediate computer knowledge, including MS Office and the ability to learn new programs (previous experience with databases desired) ย 
  • Dependable and consistent in attendance and performance ย 
  • Flexibility and strong desire to learn and grow ย 
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and with diverse groups of people ย 
  • Bachelor's degree preferred ย 
  • Previous financial counseling and/or tax preparation certification preferred ย 
  • Proficiency in a common immigrant language (such as Spanish, Portuguese, Dari, or Pashto) strongly preferredย 
$27.20 - $28.10 an hour
