Job description

Position Summary:

The Completion & Workover Engineer will conduct well workover and completion planning and design, writing AFEs, evaluating performance & costs, evaluating vendor performance, investigating and applying new technologies to saltwater disposal wells located in the Permian Basin, Arkoma Basin and South Texas. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to work closely and effectively with Reservoir, Land, Construction and Regulatory groups, provide up to date detailed performance and cost analysis to Division Management and to provide the daily Engineering supervisory support and guidance for rig operations & well site supervisors.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to an established safety-first operating ethos for all planning and execution - proactively reduce risk exposure, and retroactively evaluate incidents to plan/design root causes out of future operations
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance for all planned and executed operations
  • Maintain and enhance company well control policies for workover and completion operations
  • Design and implement well work activities for workover, completions and P&A operations
  • Liaise with Procurement Department and 3rd party providers to procure tubulars and casing tools for workover and completions operations
  • Develop operational cost estimates
  • Monitor daily operational progress of well work, provide support to field supervisors as necessary
  • Track planned versus actual costs, and ensure costs are reported accurately and coded properly in operational reporting and invoice approval systems
  • Thoroughly review contractor invoices, promote a fair business environment based on partnership, and enforce contractor accountability when necessary
  • Travel to company designated sites when necessary
  • Develop root cause analyses for major NPT events or operational misses when necessary
  • Facilitate pre-planning meetings and post well after-action reviews when applicable with input from field and office Operations Team
  • Maintain and enhance final well work reports including wellbore construction records, cost reconciliations, regulatory reporting
  • Assist in the development of an in-house reporting system to track regulatory information, operational activities, costs and wellbore construction records

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree (or higher) in Engineering, Mechanical or Petroleum preferred
  • 5 years' industry experience is preferred with focus on completions and high-pressure workovers
  • Permian experience is preferred
  • Must be proficient in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • High level of personal and professional integrity and accountability is required
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of integrating within multi-disciplined teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment is required
  • Must have the ability to adapt communication styles between onsite team and technical office-based team, and ensure nothing is lost in translation between the two groups
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills are required
  • Must be willing and able to travel to the various field operation locales when necessary
  • Spotfire, PowerBI, Tableau or other analytics exposure preferred
  • The ability to interpret open hole and cased hole formation evaluation logs in addition to cement and casing evaluation logs is preferred
  • Experience in remedial cementing design and execution is preferred
  • Experience in primary completion and remedial acid stimulation design and execution is preferred
  • Experience in fracture stimulation design and execution for vertical or horizontal wells is preferred
  • Experience performing and analyzing formation pressure evaluations including step rate testing (SRT) and leak off tests (LOT) is preferred
  • Proficiency in workover and completion fluids system design and execution including stimulation and diversion additive selection for fracture and acid stimulation is preferred

  • Operates in a professional and/or business casual office environment.
