What does working with pets involve?

Working with pets typically involves caring for animals in various settings such as veterinary clinics, animal shelters, pet grooming salons, or as a pet sitter or trainer. Responsibilities can include feeding, grooming, exercising, monitoring health, and providing companionship. Some roles may also require administering medication, training animals, or educating pet owners about proper care. This field is ideal for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare and enjoy hands-on interaction with pets. The specific duties can vary widely depending on the job and the type of animals involved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a career working with pets, and why are they important?

To thrive in a career working with pets, you need a solid understanding of animal behavior, basic pet care, and often a relevant qualification such as a certification in animal care or veterinary assistance. Familiarity with specialized tools like grooming equipment, animal restraint devices, and pet management software is typically required. Patience, compassion, and strong communication skills help build trust with both animals and their owners. These skills ensure the well-being of the pets, foster positive client relationships, and contribute to a safe and effective work environment.

At Assisting Hands, we are expanding, and we are looking for a reliable, highly organized, and proactive team member to become a key player in our operations. In this versatile hybrid role, you will serve as the right hand to our Office Manager, Sharon, keeping our day-to-day administration running seamlessly, while standing by as our trusted, go-to caregiver when emergency field coverage is needed.
If you thrive in a dynamic environment, take pride in exceptional attention to detail, and love knowing your work directly impacts both clients and care teams, this position is for you!
What You’ll Do

1. Core Office & Administrative Support

  • Operations: Assist the Office Manager and Owners with daily operations, scanning, filing, and digital document management.
  • Compliance: Track and maintain caregiver credentials, certifications, and compliance logs.
  • Client Onboarding: Prepare comprehensive client folders for new consultations and assist with urgent intake needs.
  • Finance Support: Process invoices, assist with insurance claim filings, and track pending documentation.
  • Communication: Answer incoming phones with warmth and professionalism, and assist with caregiver orientations.
2. Priority Field Response (Standby / On-Call Caregiving)

  • Emergency Coverage: Step in confidently for last-minute shift gaps or open client needs (during your scheduled office hours of 7:30-3:30).
  • Exceptional Care: Provide compassionate, high-standard personal care, assistance with ADLs, full bathing/toileting routines, and brief changes.
  • Mobility & Transfers: Safely assist clients using gait belts, slide boards, Hoyer lifts, and other medical equipment.
  • Client Transportation: Provide safe transportation for clients to appointments or errands as needed.
What We’re Looking For

  • Proven Caregiving Experience: Confident in handling diverse care needs, including advanced transfers (Hoyer lift experience preferred, but training is provided).
  • Sharp Administrative Skills: High attention to detail, strong organizational habits, and comfortable learning new office software.
  • Reliability & Flexibility: A "jump-in-and-help" mindset with a strong work ethic.
  • Professional Adaptability: Comfortable working with diverse clients in various home environments (including homes with pets or smokers).
  • Logistics: Valid Driver’s License, reliable personal vehicle, and active auto insurance (required).
Why You’ll Love Working With Us

  • Consistent Hours: Enjoy predictable Monday - Friday daytime hours. No late nights or weekend shifts!
  • Career Growth: A unique, blended role that builds your administrative skills while honoring your caregiving expertise.
  • Supportive Culture: Work directly alongside Office Manager and Owners in a warm, family-oriented atmosphere.
