INTRODUCTION/POSITION: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (https://www.chem.udel.edu/), in the College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a temporary assistant professor-level position in Chemistry and Biochemistry, starting August 16, 2026. This position offers a strong, supportive setting for a teaching-intensive role in the environment of a highly active research department that supports robust undergraduate and graduate educational programs. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory chemistry classes to chemistry and biochemistry majors and non-majors, including core concepts in introductory chemistry. Competence and/or experience teaching courses that support the department's biochemistry curriculum will also be considered favorably. Successful applicants will share our vision to be a department that is nationally recognized for high impact research and for delivering exceptional education and training opportunities across the chemical sciences. We seek creative individuals who are eager to work in a collaborative educational environment, have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, have the drive to be leaders in their field, and are high-quality teachers and mentors.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking exceptional candidates that have completed a doctoral or equivalent degree in chemistry or a related field, prior to appointment, and have significant teaching interest and experience. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory-to-intermediate chemistry classes to chemistry and biochemistry majors and non-majors, including core concepts in introductory chemistry. Competence and/or experience in teaching the above concepts as well as biochemistry materials to upper-level students will be viewed favorably. Postdoctoral experience with significant publications in research or education is desirable, but not necessary. Demonstrable commitment to mentoring is also highly desirable. Primary responsibilities of this teaching-intensive position include teaching introductory-to-intermediate level courses, development of curriculum, coordination of lectures with associated laboratory sections, and administrative tasks. Faculty are also expected to contribute to departmental committees that support department functions and academic programs, and to make contributions to departmental teaching and research workshops, retreats, seminars, etc. The position may additionally involve College and University service, as well as discipline-based education research and advisement responsibilities.

Upon joining the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the successful candidate will work among a dynamic faculty to deepen the Department's world class research and educational programs spanning a wide variety of areas in the allied chemical sciences and related scientific disciplines. Undergraduates have opportunities to participate in peer-mentoring programs for courses, as well as in research experiences in laboratories, while being mentored by graduate students and faculty.
