What are some common challenges faced by employees working on a ranch, and how can they be addressed?

Working on a ranch often involves long hours in varying weather conditions, physically demanding tasks, and the need to adapt quickly to unexpected situations such as animal health issues or equipment breakdowns. Teamwork and clear communication are essential for safety and efficiency, as many tasks require coordination with other workers. Building resilience, staying organized, and being proactive about equipment maintenance can help address these challenges. Additionally, seeking mentorship from experienced ranch hands can provide valuable insights and support.

What is a working ranch?

A working ranch is a type of agricultural property where livestock such as cattle, horses, or sheep are raised and managed as part of daily operations. Unlike guest or dude ranches, working ranches focus primarily on traditional ranching activities, including animal husbandry, land management, and crop production. Workers on a ranch may perform tasks such as feeding animals, maintaining fences, repairing equipment, and assisting with breeding or calving. These ranches play a vital role in food production and rural economies. Working ranches can also offer hands-on experiences for those interested in learning about the ranching lifestyle.

What is the difference between Working Ranch vs Ranch Hand?

Both roles involve outdoor work on ranches, focusing on livestock and land management. A Working Ranch typically refers to the entire operation, while a Ranch Hand is a specific position within that environment, performing hands-on tasks essential to daily ranch functions.

How much money do you make working on a ranch?

Wages for working on a ranch vary depending on experience, location, and job responsibilities, but typically range from minimum wage to $15-$20 per hour. Ranch workers may also earn additional income through tips or seasonal bonuses, and some positions offer room and board as part of compensation.

What jobs are there to do on a ranch?

On a working ranch, common jobs include ranch hand, cattle or livestock handler, equipment operator, veterinarian assistant, and maintenance worker. These roles often require physical labor, knowledge of animal care, and operation of machinery, with schedules typically aligned with daily ranch activities.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

In the context of a working ranch, high-paying roles such as ranch owners or investors can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially if they own large operations or diversify income sources like tourism or leasing. Executive-level positions in agricultural companies or specialized consultants with extensive experience may also reach this income level, often requiring advanced skills, business acumen, and significant responsibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Working Ranch Hand, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Working Ranch Hand, you need practical knowledge of livestock care, basic veterinary skills, equipment operation, and general ranch maintenance, often gained through hands-on experience or agricultural training. Familiarity with tools like tractors, fencing equipment, ATVs, and sometimes certification in animal handling or first aid is beneficial. Strong work ethic, adaptability, effective communication, and problem-solving skills help individuals excel in dynamic, outdoor environments. These competencies are crucial for ensuring animal welfare, operational efficiency, and safety on a working ranch.

What qualifications do I need to work on a ranch?

Working on a ranch typically requires physical fitness, basic animal handling skills, and the ability to operate farm equipment. Prior experience with livestock and knowledge of safety procedures are also beneficial; some positions may require a high school diploma or equivalent.

Who we are
At Golf Ranch, we're in love with the game of golf and we're on a mission to make it more accessible, more fun, and way less formal. We pride ourselves on creating spaces that buzz with energy - where competition and connection go hand in hand, and where our core values of Unshakeable Character, Competitive Greatness, Infectious Enthusiasm, and Deep Connection are celebrated every day.
Working here means joining a team that brings passion and pride to every shift. We back each other up, celebrate wins big and small, and stay focused on creating unforgettable guest experiences. Ready to work where good vibes and great people come standard? Apply today and come be part of the team that's changing the game!
Who you are
The Assistant General Manager we're looking for isn't just selling Ranch Passes, they're the heartbeat of membership growth at Golf Ranch. They don't wait to be pointed in the right direction. They set the direction.
This role demands someone who leads from the front every shift, holds a team to a high standard without flinching, and takes personal ownership of membership outcomes. You're energized by performance, uncomfortable with mediocrity, and driven by the belief that every guest interaction is an opportunity. If you need external motivation to perform, this isn't the role for you. If you're someone who raises the bar just by showing up - we want to meet you.
What you'll do
Team Leadership & Development
  • Model the energy, professionalism, and accountability you demand from your team - no exceptions
  • Own the new hire training process end-to-end: onboarding, shadow shifts, and expectation-setting from day one
  • Provide direct, real-time coaching every shift - training, redirecting, and recognizing performance in the moment
  • Build a culture where feedback is ongoing and standards are non-negotiable
  • Act as the go-to decision-maker when things get busy - solve problems fast, keep the team moving

Membership Growth & Retention
  • Drive Ranch Pass membership growth through daily execution, not occasional effort
  • Ensure every guest is offered the opportunity to join - no missed conversations, no missed leads, no exceptions
  • Use performance data to identify trends, celebrate top performers, and sharpen team execution
  • Hold the team accountable to a consistent, high-quality sales process that converts guest interactions into lasting membership value
  • Own all aspects of Ranch Pass: coaching, communication, retention, and member satisfaction

Guest Experience & Service
  • Set and protect the standard for every guest touchpoint - from first impression to issue resolution
  • Ensure payments, upgrades, profiles, and cancellations are executed with precision and care
  • Resolve guest concerns quickly and decisively, protecting both the relationship and the brand
  • Maintain an environment that reflects Golf Ranch's standards in every detail

Operations & Site Excellence
  • Oversee sales counter operations with full accountability for accuracy and consistency
  • Train and hold team members to Golf Ranch systems, SOPs, and daily checklists
  • Troubleshoot in real time - tech issues, high-traffic rushes, staffing gaps - without losing pace or quality

Requirements
What you'll need
  • 2+ years of leadership experience in a sales-driven environment - hospitality, entertainment, fitness, or membership-based businesses preferred
  • A proven track record of hitting and exceeding sales targets, not just managing a team through the motions
  • Deep comfort with membership sales conversations - pitching, handling objections, closing, and coaching others to do the same
  • Experience using performance data to identify gaps, develop individuals, and drive consistent team-wide results
  • Strong communication skills, direct, authentic, and persuasive with both guests and team members
  • Familiarity with CRM tools, POS systems, or membership management platforms
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and peak periods; this is an MOD leadership role

Bonus Points
  • Background in golf, F&B, or entertainment operations
  • Background in membership-based sales models
  • Familiarity with sales coaching frameworks and performance accountability systems

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, and interact with guests for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, and set up items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, including outdoors in varying weather conditions

Benefits
Why Golf Ranch?
At Golf Ranch, work, play, and growth go hand in hand. Along with a supportive team environment, we offer:
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits covered at 50%
  • Commission and bonus incentives
  • Unlimited buckets to enjoy outside of work
  • 50% off food and beverages
  • 25% off merchandise and retail
  • One free on-shift meal from our beloved concession container
  • Predictable scheduling you can plan around
  • On-the-job training and career development opportunities

Our mission to create a sense of belonging through the game of golf reflects our commitment to diversity & inclusion. Golf Ranch is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, age, national origin, marital status, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other reason prohibited by law in provision of employment opportunities.
