Job description

Primary Function: Maintains a clean, safe, orderly and attractive environment throughout all Hospital departments, patient areas, offices, corridors, and or any hospital-controlled area following hospital cleaning and disinfection standards. Remove waste and linen, complete room cleaning discharges and daily cleaning, as well as terminally clean operating rooms. Housekeepers will also interact with staff and patients on a regular basis and will collaborate with other members of the environmental services department. This position may also be asked to assist the transport department by moving patients and specimens throughout the building.

Responsibilities

-Clean patients rooms and properly maintain all areas on the Nursing Unit including Bed-making support for unoccupied patient beds, disposal of needle boxes, Emptying laundry hampers, and ensuring that all corridors are clear of any obstruction.

-Transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed within the hospital. Assist patients into and out of automobiles using established procedure when discharging or transporting. Place equipment in vehicle as necessary. Transport deceased patients to the Hospital Morgue as required.

-Deliver laboratory specimens, x-rays, lab reports, telephone requests, stockroom Requisitions and other miscellaneous items and reports necessary to support nursing unit.

-Move equipment on wheels such as hospital beds, carts, cardiac and geriatric chairs and supplies as instructed; transport medical equipment to place of patient discharge. Wash and clean all nursing unit transport and medical equipment. Maintain area, equipment and supplies in a neat, orderly and safe condition. Alert appropriate personnel about any broken equipment or any maintenance needed.

- Clean, wash, mop, vacuum and disinfect each discharge room for new admission.

-Maintain inventory and prepare orders for all non-par stock items on the Nursing Unit.

-Assist in the training of new employees in day to day procedures observing and enforcing all hospital policies, rules and regulations.

-Address and meet all patient non-clinical needs as required

-Performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications: A High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
