Description:

JOB TITLE: Driver Education Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Employment Services

SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Director of Employment Services

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

JOB STATUS: Non-Exempt-PRN

SCHEDULE: Varies; as needed, as available


Summary:

Provide driver education and training services to individuals, including those participating in Vocational Rehabilitation programs. This role focuses on developing safe driving skills, evaluating participant readiness, and supporting independence through individualized instruction using a vehicle.


Key Responsibilities:

• Provide driver education and behind-the-wheel training to participants
• Evaluate driving abilities and adapt instruction to meet individual needs
• Train participants in the use of a vehicle
• Develop and maintain individualized training schedules
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services and participant progress
• Submit required reports to Vocational Rehabilitation and agency leadership
• Serve as a liaison with Vocational Rehabilitation counselors and student representatives

Qualifications & Skills:

• Minimum age of 25 years
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to assess, evaluate, and instruct individuals with varying skill levels
• Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule
• Strong organizational and documentation skills
• Basic proficiency with technology (email, mobile devices, electronic timekeeping systems)


Physical & Work Requirements:

• Ability to operate standard and modified vehicles safely
• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and instructing
• Ability to respond effectively in emergency or high-risk driving situations
• Frequent local travel for instruction sessions
• Ability to maintain focus and situational awareness during instruction

• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance


Certifications & Training Requirements:

• Must obtain Driver Education Instructor Certification within 45 days of hire
• Maintain valid Driver Education Instructor certification

• CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens certification

• Certified Restraint Training

• Core A & B certification

• Completion of required agency and regulatory trainings (e.g., Human Rights, Safety, Medication Administration)
