Job description


Join one of the nation's most comprehensive academic medical centers, The UChicago Medicine Health System, as a Workforce Development Trainer in our Talent Strategy & Experience department. This position will be onsite at our Hyde Park campus and off-site locations around Chicagoland at least three days per week. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
The Workforce Development Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality virtual and in-person training programs for professional development and leadership development offerings across the health system, improving the skills and knowledge of employees, and resulting in increased productivity and improved performance for the organization. The Workforce Development Trainer plays a critical role in advancing UChicago Medicine's culture transformation efforts by designing, facilitating, and implementing learning experiences that reinforce organizational values, leadership expectations, service excellence standards, and patient-centered behaviors. This role partners closely with leaders, frontline teams, and subject matter experts to build the skills, mindsets, and behaviors necessary to deliver exceptional patient, family, and employee experiences across the health system.
The Workforce Development Trainer partners with subject matter experts, leaders, and employees across the health system to assess learning needs and develop engaging, effective learning solutions that support organizational priorities. The trainer maintains training materials, job aids, and communications; supports program launches; and coordinates the logistics and administration of learning programs, workshops, webinars, and events, including registration, participant communications, and facilitator support. Working collaboratively with HR, Consumer Experience, and business partners, the Trainer supports all phases of program delivery and evaluation. They establish and monitor measures of learning effectiveness, using participant feedback and performance data to continuously improve existing programs and identify new development opportunities.
A significant portion of this role is dedicated to facilitation, coaching, and leading interactive learning experiences that support leadership effectiveness, professional growth, service excellence, and organizational culture initiatives. The Trainer serves as a visible ambassador for UChicago Medicine's commitment to excellence, helping employees at all levels understand and consistently demonstrate the behaviors required to achieve our strategic vision and elevate the experience of those we serve.
Essential Job Functions
  • Deliver comprehensive training programs, including lesson plans, materials, and assessments
  • Facilitate interactive and engaging training sessions both in-person and virtually for employees of all levels, using a variety of instructional techniques
  • Assess employee understanding and adjust training plans as needed
  • Track training attendance and enforce compliance where required
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback and metrics
  • Collaborate with department heads to determine training needs and identify areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop specialized training content
  • Partner with HR and organizational leadership to align training programs with workforce needs and future talent development opportunities
  • Identify skill gaps and create training initiatives that help employees progress in their careers
  • Track employee progress across career development programming
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support for employees to achieve upward mobilization and leverage career readiness training
  • Develop e-learning materials, administer LMS, and maintain the web page for the Talent Strategy & Experience department
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices in learning and development
  • Perform other duties as requested

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required, advanced degree a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in training, talent development, management/leadership development, workforce development or related disciplines
  • 5+ years of experience in a role requiring consultation and influence skills
  • 5+ years of facilitation and training delivery experience
  • Strong public speaking skills, ability to engage a large audience
  • Experience with story-telling and motivational speaking skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized with the highest level of quality standards
  • Goal-driven with the ability to proactively take initiative
  • Ability to quickly build trust-based relationships with organizational leadership, colleagues and internal/external stakeholders
  • Extensive skill and practical use of software, web-based, and cloud-based applications including MS Office, Visio, MS Project, and LMS Administration
  • Strong strategic thinking and decision strength
  • Excellent project management and consulting skills
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate adult learners
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to resolve conflict and provide clear direction
  • Experience in working across multiple locations
  • Comfortable working with minimal direction and comfortable with ambiguity

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
