OverviewThe Risk Management Specialist is responsible for prompt incident investigation, detailed medical record review, maintaining accurate data bases related to safety and risk, generating and analyzing reports and providing results that support the activities of system performance improvement and high reliability healthcare delivery. The Risk Management Specialist produces findings of investigations related to actual as well as potential adverse outcomes, identifies preventable versus non preventable outcomes, and proactively facilitates actions to achieve safety and risk reduction. This role works collaboratively with internal and external professionals to integrate, implement and evaluate the impact of trended information on the development of safe practices throughout Beebe. This position works closely with the Director of Risk Management and Quality Commitment to analyze, interpret and trend incidents as well as recommend and initiate actions to reduce or eliminate incidents. This person assists with reporting Potentially Compensable Events to Insurers (as applicable). The Risk Management Specialist provides input into decision- making for strategic goal development, develops management reports and reports for committees, and presents informational forums to best ensure optimal patient, visitor and workplace safety. This person will be responsible for statistical analysis for research and safety improvement projects.Responsibilities

Interprets information on Safety Tracking Tools ("STTs); determines category and severity level and verifies accuracy of information within the STT by querying front-line staff, leadership, medical records, computer programs and systems, equipment and other applicable primary source information. Notifies Director of Risk Management of events with severity level of 7 and above and all events with potential for serious harm. Also identifies trends and notifies the Director of Risk Management and Quality Commitment of the trends identified. All done in timely manner. Performs prompt incident/event investigation: assists with measures to minimize impact of adverse event; performs interviews of people who have knowledge of facts of event; photographs and/or videos location of event and equipment or other relevant information (as applicable); removes and sequesters any potentially malfunctioning equipment or equipment or computer systems that may require data extraction to preserve evidence; collects information extraneous from the medical record; ensures information that may no longer become available is collected (e.g. computer logs). Proactively provides input and recommendations based on event analysis and trends to Director of Risk Management  as well as to Directors and Managers to help ensure patients obtain safe, reliable care and that visitors, contractors, volunteers, students and team members are in a safe environment. In doing so, performs research to obtain accurate and credible information to support decision-making. Collaborates with members of Leadership, Front Line Staff, Educators and Medical Staff when establishing new and reviewing existing policies and procedures, in order to identify potential failures or weaknesses that may impact Beebe's ability to provide safe, reliable care or provide a safe environment and provides recommendations for improvement. Demonstrates competency, skill and accuracy for computer applications such as Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook, Beebe's Electronic Occurrence/Event Reporting System and other applicable computer applications. Provides Safety Tracking Tool data to members of formal committees, members of ad hoc teams or committees, Directors, Managers and others (as applicable) proactively and/or upon request, in a timely fashion. Completes accurate and timely medical record review. Has ability to identify and focus in on errors or potential failures of treatment and care, documentation and policy adherence when performing medical record review. Maintains accurate databases to assist with tracking STTs, reported incidents and other data to closure. Performs "follow up" for STT closure on a timely and consistent basis. Populates, reviews and tracks data from external sources (such as the FDA or device manufacturers) as well as internal sources. Performed consistently and timely. Reports potentially compensable events to insurers as requested by the Director of Risk Management and Quality Commitment or members of the Executive Staff. Communicates professionally in a timely, regular and many times frequent basis with managers, directors and other team members to ensure collaboration occurs for problem solving after a safety event has been reported. Proactively assists to help ensure that appropriate actions have been taken in response to identified and reported safety events and potentially unsafe conditions. Identification of events requiring proactive communication with organizational finance departments and timely notifying such departments of applicable, requested actions. Performs proactive audits and observations through walk-around in various departments. Provides ideas regarding topics which departments should audit and observe. Provides timely feedback with department leadership regarding findings of audits and observations and assists with process improvement by providing ideas to help achieve compliance and consistently safe, highly reliable care.

Qualifications

2 years minimum clinical experience. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office applications, data manipulation / data analysis software applications and clinical data management. Problem solving and creative thinking needed to meet demands of some situations. Ability to apply computer applications. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to handle stressful situations.
