Position Summary:

The Assistant Manager - Cafe is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the convenience store's food and beverage department and managing, supervising, and training the department's employees in accordance with company expectations. The position is responsible for maximizing long term profitability by creating superior value for customers while consuming fewer resources and always acting with integrity.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, non-exempt position which is eligible for overtime pay after 40 hours worked in a standard workweek.


Essential Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, hires, trains, mentors, and manages cafe department employees to ensure high performance and motivation.
  • Supervises and evaluates department's employees: promotes employee growth, efficiency, morale, engagement and teamwork.
  • Produces and maintains department's weekly employee shift schedule.
  • Conducts regular department staff meetings to promote communication and collaboration.
  • Maintains communication with staff across all departments as required (central office, phone, email, virtual meetings etc.).
  • Oversees daily operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment.
  • Maintains accurate inventory on a weekly/monthly basis.
  • Prepares orders as required from vendors to ensure accurate production.
  • Maintains food production that ensures the safety and quality of food according to policies, procedures and company requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure that food and chemicals are stored safe, organized, and in a hazard free environment
  • Ensures security of company assets
  • Collaborates with cooks and team members to ensure recipe adherence and portion control.
  • Ensures all food and beverage offerings meet quality and presentation standards.
  • Implements company marketing strategies to attract new customers and retain existing ones.
  • Ensures exceptional customer service standards are upheld at all times.
  • Addresses customer inquiries and complaints promptly and effectively.
  • Fosters a friendly and welcoming environment to encourage repeat business.
  • Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
  • Performs cashier duties as required.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by the General Manager and/or Food and Beverage Director.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Proficiency in using POS systems and basic financial management software.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Experience in a managerial role within the food and beverage industry, preferably in a restaurant setting.
  • Must possess ServSafe Manager certification or the ability to become certified.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Associates Degree or higher in Business Administration or related field of study strongly preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced environment with a focus on customer interaction.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.

    • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs, ladders, or stockroom platforms during store visits.

Must be able to move about in store and kitchen environments.

Ability to frequently lift and carry up to XX pounds ; occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Frequent standing, walking, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing and carrying.
