Job description

Blackstone is the world's largest alternative asset manager. Blackstone seeks to deliver compelling returns for institutional and individual investors by strengthening the companies in which the firm invests. Blackstone's over $1.3 trillion in assets under management include global investment strategies focused on real estate, private equity, credit, infrastructure, life sciences, growth equity, secondaries and hedge funds. Further information is available at www.blackstone.com. Follow @blackstone on LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and Instagram.
Blackstone manages $1.2T across private equity, real estate, credit, infrastructure, life sciences, growth equity, and secondary funds. Blackstone Data Science (BXDS), part of the firm's Operating Team, is the group that makes Blackstone's investment teams sharper investors and better operators, building models, analytics, and AI-enabled tools that sit directly inside live deal work rather than on the periphery of it.
BXDS is hiring a VP to carry forward and grow data science for the Secondaries investment team, one of Blackstone's most active and fastest-evolving strategies. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with secondaries investment professionals in New York on pricing, portfolio analytics, and AI-enabled workflows that directly shape how the team underwrites and prices deals.
This role reports to BXDS's Principal Data Scientist for Secondaries, based in San Francisco, which means you'll be the senior data science presence in the room for New York's investment team day to day. You'll have autonomy to make judgment calls, represent the function's work directly to senior stakeholders, and build trust on your own footing. For someone ready to lead rather than simply execute, it's a great level of visibility and ownership, and a chance to help establish what the data science function looks like in the NY office as it grows.
What You'll Do
  • Shape how secondaries deals get priced and evaluated. Lead development of models and analytical tools covering pricing, valuation, portfolio analytics, and underwriting: work that feeds directly into live investment decisions, not backtests.
  • Be the analytical partner investment professionals actually go to. Work closely with deal teams to scope ambiguous problems, translate them into rigorous analysis, and get it in front of decision-makers fast.
  • Build workflows the team relies on, not one-off models. Turn ad hoc analysis into repeatable tools that make evaluating opportunities faster and more consistent across the team.
  • Push the team's AI/LLM capabilities forward. Design and build workflows that extract, summarize, and reason over GP reports, fund documents, financials, CIMs, and deal memos, changing how quickly and thoroughly the team can process dense investment materials.
  • Spot what's next. Bring new datasets, modeling approaches, and AI tools to the table before they're asked for.
  • Own delivery end to end. Take projects from an open-ended question through to a shipped, adopted tool, with minimal oversight and real accountability for outcomes.
  • Strengthen the infrastructure underneath it all. Partner with data engineering on pipelines and data quality so the analytics you build can actually scale.

Core requirements:
  • 5+ years in data science, quantitative analytics, investment analytics, or ML, ideally with exposure to financial, investment, transaction, fund-level, or portfolio company data
  • Strong Python and SQL skills, with real experience wrangling messy, unstructured datasets
  • A track record of building analytical models, forecasting tools, or decision-support systems that business stakeholders actually used
  • Solid grounding in statistics and predictive modeling
  • Hands-on experience with AI/LLM workflows, including document extraction, summarization, normalization, or retrieval
  • The presence and communication skills to explain technical work to senior, non-technical stakeholders and hold your own in the room without a manager present
  • A self-starter who can prioritize independently and deliver without close supervision
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (computer science, data science, statistics, or related)

Strong plus, not required:
  • Familiarity with private markets, private equity, secondaries, asset management, or fintech
  • Comfort spanning both modeling and data infrastructure work
  • Advanced degree

The duties and responsibilities described here are not exhaustive and additional assignments, duties, or responsibilities may be required of this position. Assignments, duties, and responsibilities may be changed at any time, with or without notice, by Blackstone in its sole discretion.
Expected annual base salary range:
$185,000 - $200,000
Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.
Additional compensation and benefits offered in connection with the role consist of comprehensive health benefits, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, and FSA benefits; paid time off; life insurance; 401(k) plan; and discretionary bonuses. Certain employees may also be eligible for equity and other incentive compensation at Blackstone's sole discretion.
Blackstone is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, age, marital or partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, genetic predisposition, veteran or military status, status as a victim of domestic violence, a sex offense or stalking, or any other class or status in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including but not limited to hiring, placement, promotion, termination, transfer, leave of absence, compensation, and training.   • Attending client meetings where you are discussing Blackstone products and/or and client questions;
  • Marketing Blackstone funds to new or existing clients;
  • Supervising or training securities licensed employees;
  • Structuring or creating Blackstone funds/products; and
  • Advising on marketing plans prepared by a sales team or developing and/or contributing information for marketing materials.

Note: The above list is not the exhaustive list of activities requiring securities licenses and there may be roles that require review on a case-by-case basis. Please speak with your Blackstone Recruiting contact with any questions.
