ECU Graduate School is currently seeking several motivated and professional office assistants to support the Graduate School's Welcome Desk. The Work-Study Student Assistant serves as the first point of contact for visitors at the Mendenhall Welcome Desk. This role focuses on providing accurate information, directions, and general assistance to students, staff, and guests, ensuring a welcoming and helpful environment within the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Greet all visitors in a friendly, professional, and approachable manner
  • Provide directions and general information about Mendenhall Student Center, campus offices, events, and services
  • Assist guests in navigating the building and campus
  • Answer basic questions in person, by phone, or via email (if applicable)
  • Monitor the Welcome Desk area to ensure a clean, organized, and presentable space
  • Report any issues, concerns, or unusual activity to a supervisor.
  • Support basic administrative or front desk tasks as assigned
Work Schedule:
  • Flexible hours based on class schedule and departmental needs
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate clearly
Learning Outcomes:
Students in this role will:
  • Develop professional communication and customer service skills
  • Gain knowledge of campus resources and operations
  • Enhance problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Build confidence in a public-facing role
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
Preferably with a background in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Education, Psychology or Sociology
Required Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Friendly, customer-service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Basic knowledge of campus layout (or willingness to learn quickly)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous customer service or front desk experience
  • Familiarity with Mendenhall Student Center and campus resources
