Number of Positions: 2, substantial time comment as teaching assistant to 3 GIS courses in 26-27, plus ASAL work divided between 2 students may fit better in their studies.
Hours per Week: 20
Weekends Required: No
Evenings Required: Yes
Supervisor: Peter Palmiotto
Alternate Supervisor: Mike Akresh
This position allows for remote work Yes/No: Yes
Percentage of time that could be remote (0-100%): Can range from 20-80% depending if TA work is on campus or virtually.
Method to assess remote work: Review of project completion, monthly ASAL team meetings, instructor supervision and evaluation
Job Description
  • The GIS ASAL assistant will conduct teaching assistant duties to support faculty in teaching Introduction to GIS and Advanced GIS classes 10 hr /week).
  • Additionally, the graduate assistant will work on GIS projects contract by Antioch's Spatial Analysis Lab (ASAL).
  • Projects my involve research of faculty, map making for local governments, trail maps and maps association with Natural Resource inventories (9 hr/wk).
  • Graduate assistant manages GIS lab, plotter printing, monthly ASAL meetings as facilitator and note-taker, writes annual report (1 hr/wk).

Qualifications
  • Proficient in basic GIS skills (eg map making, data collection) using ArcPro.
  • Desired skills include knowledge of QGIS and drone use.
  • Have the desire to teach and patience with GIS problem solving as well as novice learners.
