College Work Study- Civic Engagement
Daley College
City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.
The Office of Legislative and Community Affairs strives to maintain positive relations between government offices, local campuses, and our neighbors and to work collaboratively with community groups to improve the educational experience of our students. Additionally, the Office cultivates community partnerships that are designed to give students opportunities to explore pathways to community involvement, leadership development, and civic responsibility. Civic engagement takes on individual volunteerism, collective engagement, and electoral participation to foster awareness of societal issues and address issues of public concern.
City Colleges aims to cultivate a culture of civic engagement across the district. The Office is seeking someone who could assist with improving voter registration, coordinating non-partisan voter education programming, and provide support for the expansion of civic engagement initiatives.
Responsibilities
• Assist with the department's voter registration, non-partisan voter education, and voter turnout initiatives
• Provides support for the growth and expansion of civic engagement programming
• Supports marketing, outreach plans, and campaigns focused on civic engagement
• Participates in outreach efforts to promote civic engagement including information/resource fairs and community events
• Build and maintain relationships with local neighborhood leaders and block clubs to cultivate relationships and collaboration on shared civic concerns on behalf of the College
• Helps guide current students towards CCC civic resources - voter registration, pledge to vote, and the Citizens Campaign
• Answers questions that students may have about Civic Engagement
• Encourages student participation in CCC civic engagement initiatives through coordination of on campus programming and tabling
• Participates in and supports the execution of on-campus activities
• Copies materials used to promote civic engagement campaigns for fairs, workshops, and tabling
• Sets a positive/supportive introduction to civic engagement for new and returning students
• Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
Eligibility Requirements:
• Applicants must be 16years or older, have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States
• Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago
• Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit semester hours
• Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate
• Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students)
• Applicants must be in "good standing" - no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions
• Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago
• All positions are "employment at-will"
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.
• Knowledge of City Colleges of Chicago.
• Excellent oral communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as City Colleges of Chicago representative.
• Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.
• Attend 75% of the weekly Student Programing Board meetings. Initiate, pursue and present event proposals during meetings.
• Support event functions through planning, attending, and publicizing.
• Assist other programmers with their events by attending and playing an active role.
• Responsible for all the artists' hospitality and technical requirements for your events. Acting professionally whenever representing or conducting Daley College business, both on and off campus.
The hourly pay rate for this position is $17-$19 hourly. Offered rate will be determined based on whether assigned location is on campus or off campus.
