Job description

The AV Engineer is responsible for managing and executing all audio components for live performances and events at The Bassment, with limited support in lighting and projection as needed. This role plays a key part in shaping the auditory and atmospheric experience for guests, supporting artists and performers, and upholding The Bassment’s reputation for atmospheric nightlife. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in live sound mixing, along with working knowledge of lighting design and multimedia projection. The ability to troubleshoot quickly in a fast-paced, live environment is essential. This is a part-time position, scheduled 20-30 hours per week, with hours fluctuating in response to private events. 

Responsibilities 

Audio Engineering 

  • Operate and mix live audio for performances, DJs, and special events 
  • Conduct sound checks and maintain balanced audio throughout the night 
  • Monitor and adjust levels in real time to match the room and artist needs 
  • Maintain and troubleshoot audio equipment, cabling, and hardware 

Lighting and Visual Support (Occasional) 

  • Control and program lighting scenes to enhance the guest and performer experience 
  • Operate projectors and visual systems as needed for artist visuals or branded content 
  • Coordinate lighting and visuals in sync with music and performance flow 
  • Maintain all visual and lighting gear in working condition and perform basic repairs 

Event Coordination Support 

  • Communicate with performers, DJs, and event producers regarding tech requirements 
  • Set up and break down AV equipment before and after events 
  • Ensure all show elements run smoothly and respond to real-time changes on the floor 

Safety and Maintenance 

  • Follow safety protocols for all AV operations and electrical equipment 
  • Log technical issues and coordinate repairs with management as needed 
  • Keep the tech booth, backstage areas, and gear clean and well-organized 

Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age 
  • Strong knowledge of nightlife operations 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Ability to operate well in a fast-paced environment 
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Adaptable to various show types, artists, and evolving formats
