Their responsibilities may include setting up audio equipment, recording events, managing sound during live performances, and supporting faculty or staff with technical audio needs. This role provides valuable hands-on experience with professional audio equipment and software, helping students develop practical skills for careers in sound engineering or related fields. The position usually offers flexible hours to accommodate academic schedules.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Work Study Audio Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Work Study Audio Engineer, you need a foundational understanding of audio production, acoustics, and basic recording techniques, often supported by coursework or hands-on experience. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools or Logic Pro, as well as audio interfaces and mixing consoles, is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with team members and meeting project requirements. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality sound production, efficient workflow, and a successful learning experience in an academic or studio setting.

Job description

What are we looking for?
A kick-ass Lead Technician.
Where are we located?
Denver Metro, specifically Centennial, CO
Who will you report to?
Dan Lowitz, Technical Director. We think he's pretty kick-ass!
Who are we?
Remember the cartoon The Jetsons as a kid? Or how about the movie Iron Man? Both of these shows have a key commonality: they showcased killer homes that were souped up with the kind of technology that would blow your mind if that technology existed in real life.
Well, what was only sci-fi in those shows is rapidly becoming real life today. Consumer technology and smart-home systems are evolving rapidly, which means homes being built or renovated today and in the coming years will look more like those homes in the movies.
We started 16 years ago with a simple mission: "Experience the Difference." We specialize in the installation of sophisticated home automation systems. We are dedicated to providing the best user experience and performance, providing our customers with a wide selection of products and solutions. Weak points in our solutions? You won't find them. Our home automation systems work symbiotically to provide customized and user-friendly designs that are easy to modify and upgrade to stay relevant.
We're looking for someone whose commitment to an exceptional customer experience is unmatched. It's part of what sets us apart from the competition, so this is a must!
What would you be doing?
As the Lead Technician at our company, you'll spend your time working in homes and businesses to install and integrate the latest in A/V and automation technology.
Here's how a typical week might look:
  • On Monday, you might find yourself pulling wire while showing a new technician the ropes at a home under construction;
  • On Tuesday, you may be reviewing a proposal to ensure the necessary equipment is accounted for;
  • On Wednesdays, we all fly to Vegas together and hit the casinos. (just kidding; we just wanted to make sure you're still paying attention)
  • On Thursday, you may walk a client through their new home, educating them on their new integrated system;
  • You may end your week on Friday by putting the finishing touches on a dedicated theater room.

You'll spend most of your time onsite as the lead service technician. This includes acting as the lead on system configuration and programming, walking clients through newly installed systems, and overseeing other onsite technicians. On other days you'll work on serving existing clients to ensure their equipment is working smoothly. We expect you to stay up on the latest trends in the home technology industry. What can we say? We like to stay current.
If we're lucky, your daily work will be planned and structured. However, priorities can shift at a moment's notice. Therefore, you must be comfortable with shifting focus and willing to be an active participant in juggling multiple demands.
You will always be expected to treat our clients and your colleagues with patience and friendliness no matter how big or small their issues. Client service is sacred at our company, so it is of the utmost importance that you be willing and able to serve as a helping hand to our clients in their moment of need.
Job Summary:
Works with other installers and independently, in the completion of installs and service calls. Responsible for the timely completion of daily procedures and paperwork they are assigned. Tech is also responsible for assigned vehicle care and maintenance.
  • Requires excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated, task-driven, and able to apply "best practices" theory
  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • CEDIA ESTII or better certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Completion of Alarm.com Academy (or obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Completion of ProSource University within the first year of employment

What should you bring to the table?

  • Highly detailed, organized, and multitask driven
  • Ability to work on rotating "on-call" service schedule
  • Competent skills in desktop and mobile computing
