What is a work release?

A Work Release job is a position held by an incarcerated individual as part of a program that allows them to work outside of a correctional facility while serving their sentence. These jobs help individuals gain work experience, earn wages, and prepare for reintegration into society. Participants typically return to a designated facility after their shift and must follow specific rules and guidelines. Work Release programs aim to support rehabilitation and reduce recidivism by providing structured employment opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the work release position?

To thrive as a Work Release Coordinator, you need knowledge of criminal justice, case management, and employment placement, often supported by a background in corrections or social services. Familiarity with case management software, electronic monitoring systems, and documentation procedures is usually required. Excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help build trust and navigate diverse participant needs. These competencies ensure effective support for program participants, successful reintegration into the workforce, and compliance with legal and organizational standards.

What are some common challenges faced by work release coordinators, and how are they addressed?

Work Release Coordinators often navigate the challenge of balancing public safety with promoting successful reintegration for participants. Coordinators may encounter obstacles such as participants struggling to secure employment, compliance issues, or difficulties in communication between stakeholders. These challenges are addressed through proactive case management, regular check-ins, strong partnerships with local employers, and ongoing coordination with correctional and social service agencies. Working collaboratively with team members and maintaining open lines of communication is key to overcoming these hurdles and supporting positive outcomes for all involved.

Job description

Are you interested in joining a team of Community Correctional Officers where you get to make an impact on people's lives while focusing on public safety? Come join our team at Bethel Work Release Center.
The Bethel Work Release Center is a private non-profit facility that houses both male and female offenders who are re-entering society, awaiting sentencing, or serving a prison/jail sentence. Our facility focuses on public safety while helping people to reintegrate into society by assisting them in navigating their return to the community.
As a Community Correctional Officer, you will learn how the federal pre-trial system works, work with individuals under the supervision of the Department of Corrections, and those on supervision with Arrowhead Regional Corrections.
A shift includes safety and security checks, signing residents in and out of the facility, room and vehicle searches, observed urine collection for drug testing, medication dispensing, writing incident reports, and escorting residents to meals and recreation.
Desirable candidates are reliable, flexible, eager to learn, work well with others, leaders, take constructive feedback well, eager to grow as individuals while learning new skills, and want to make a difference.
This position is entry-level, and no experience is needed; however, this position is also great for someone who has experience in the field and would like to continue making a difference
There has never been a staff assault at the facility, and there is a zero-tolerance policy for any threatening behavior.
Employment with Bethel Work Release Center qualifies for the Federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Program. We offer paid internships and are flexible with scheduling.
You must be at least 18 years old with either a high school diploma or equivalent. A background check is required for employment.
EOE/AA: The Duluth Bethel is committed to equal employment opportunity and advancement toward all applicants and employees regardless of race, creed, national origin, sex (unless a bona fide occupational requirement), sexual orientation, familial status, gender identity, religion, status with regard to public assistance, membership or activity in a local human rights commission, disability, age, genetic information, or any other status protected by the law.
