Department Overview

The Electric Transmission Work Verification and As-Built team is responsible for oversight of project and maintenance engineering work for PG&E Substations.  The team is responsible for the following:

  • Work verification and as-built reviews for completed Substation project and maintenance work
  • Substation materials, equipment, and supplier pilot support
  • LiDAR/model maintenance support for Substation assets and layouts
  • Milestone reviews for contractor-executed Substation engineering work
  • Periodic job package quality checks for Substation engineering deliverables
  • Substation engineering training coordination and execution
  • ETGIS update requests for Substation asset and project records
  • As-built review process improvements for Substation Engineering

Position Summary

The Supervisor leads a team responsible for Work Verification and As-Built activities performed by both internal staff and contractors. This role is accountable for managing the budget, schedule, scope, quality, and contractor performance associated with engineering deliverables. Responsibilities include developing and tracking key performance metrics, fostering strong contractor and stakeholder relationships, and driving continuous improvement through collaboration with Construction, Maintenance, and Operations organizations.

Travel: Approximately 15%.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned location two-three days a week.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Bay Area Minimum: $126,000

Bay Area Mid: $163,000
Bay Maximum: $200,000

California Minimum: $120,000

California Mid:$155,000

California Maximum:$190,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of 8-14 project engineers, designers, and engineering assistants.
  • Provide open and honest communication of company objectives and initiatives. Foster team work, innovation, and embrace new approaches to accomplish our work more efficiently and effectively. Promote accountability and drive employee satisfaction through employee engagement, recognition and coaching. Actively recruit to fill vacancies and administer the ESC labor contract.
  • Actively promote safe practices and conduct in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.  Ensure a safe work environment and manage overall safety for the group. Review safety topics at regular group meetings and complete all mandated safety training on time. Accomplish the department goal of zero injuries & avoidable auto incidents
  • Plan a visible, stable and long-term production schedule. Assign individual & team assignments to balance project requirements with resource availability. Plan for internal workload and recommend workload to be contracted. Ensure delivery of high-quality design products on budget, on time and on purpose.
  • Provide leadership to assure the contractors deliver high-quality work product.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  •  Experience in electric operations, job-related, 5 years
  • Ability to work flexible schedule

Desired:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Leadership experience
  • 8+ years of electric utility experience in substation physical design, drafting, construction support, field verification, as-built documentation, and document control.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience as a supervisor, lead designer, or lead verifier.
  • Experience leading Work Verification and As-Built teams, including prioritizing work, managing workload, and ensuring timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Skilled in conducting quality reviews and technical audits and developing employee technical capabilities through coaching and mentoring.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Construction, Maintenance, Operations, GIS, Asset Management, and Records Management organizations.
  • Experience in scheduling
  • PMP-Project Management Professional certification
  • Technical Knowledge
  • Expertise in transmission and distribution substations (12 kV–500 kV) and utility engineering practices.
  • Proficient in interpreting substation, civil, and structural drawings, as well as PG&E engineering and drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of As-Built requirements, document control processes, Asset Registry, and configuration management principles.
  • Experience with construction work packages, turnover documentation, AutoCAD, and electronic document management systems.
  • Familiarity with contract administration and the ESC Local 20 Labor Agreement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
