Overview
The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.
A Student PCA assists patients with activities of daily living and provides basic nursing care for the acute and chronically ill patients under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse.
Some of the many skills performed
Bathing patients and personal hygiene (ie. nailcare, mouthcare, and shampooing hair)
Serve meal trays and feeding patients
Turning and positioning
Assisting patients with ambulation and transfer from bed to chair
Collect specimens
Measuring and recording I & O
Assist with toileting
Weighing patients
Distributes ice
Transporting patients on admission and discharge
Qualifications
EDUCATION: (If in School)
- You must be at least 17 years of age, and you must be a Junior or Senior in high school participating in the Work-Based Learning program
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- After orientation, one must demonstrate competence in skills and knowledge required of the position of a Patient Care Assistant
