Millwork Shop Manager

Location: Long Island City, NY

Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site

About the Role

Our client is a high-end custom millwork operation based in Long Island City, producing luxury grade millwork for prestigious residential projects. Their 12,000 sq ft shop is a full-service fabrication environment - design review, production, finishing, delivery, and installation - and they hold every project to an uncompromising standard of craftsmanship.

They are seeking an experienced Millwork Shop Manager to take full ownership of shop operations: workflow, production scheduling, quality control, estimating, procurement, and site coordination. This is a leadership role for someone who knows the millwork trade from the inside out and can run a shop with the discipline and attention to detail that luxury residential work demands.

What We're Looking For

The right candidate has managed a millwork shop before - not just supervised on the floor, but owned the full operational picture. They know wood, they know hardware, they know how to read a shop drawing and spot a problem before it becomes a field issue.

  • A proven shop manager with luxury residential or high-end interior millwork experience
  • Technically strong in shop drawing review, site measurement, and estimating
  • Operationally sharp - able to manage schedules, procurement, and multiple concurrent projects without losing control of quality
  • A clear communicator with clients, architects, site supers, and vendors
  • A leader who holds the team to the standard the product requires

Core Responsibilities

Shop Operations & Production

  • Manage all daily operations of the millwork shop including workflow sequencing, production scheduling, quality control, and safety compliance
  • Oversee fabrication processes end to end, ensuring all finished products meet luxury grade standards of craftsmanship, detail, and customization
  • Enforce safety protocols and maintain a safe, organized shop environment
  • Stay current on industry trends, materials, hardware, and fabrication techniques relevant to high-end millwork

Drawing Review & Field Coordination

  • Review and approve all shop drawings for accuracy, feasibility, and adherence to project specifications prior to release for production
  • Conduct site measurements and coordinate with project teams to verify field conditions and resolve discrepancies before they impact fabrication

Estimating & Procurement

  • Prepare detailed estimates and material take-offs for all millwork components, accurately assessing costs and resource requirements
  • Procure all materials required for production - wood species, hardware, finishes, and accessories - within established budget parameters

Delivery, Installation & Project Coordination

  • Schedule, coordinate, and monitor the delivery and on-site installation of millwork components, maintaining project timelines throughout
  • Communicate proactively with site superintendents, architects, clients, and vendors to clarify requirements and manage expectations

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing or supervising a residential or commercial millwork shop, preferably in the luxury or high-end interior market - required
  • Strong working knowledge of wood species, hardware, finishes, and fabrication techniques
  • Expertise in shop drawing review, site measurements, and project estimating
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate multiple concurrent projects
  • Effective communicator - able to liaise professionally with clients, architects, vendors, and project teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability when project conditions change
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2023 (drafting and drawing review) is a plus
  • Experience with Procore or comparable project management platforms is advantageous

The Opportunity

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced millwork professional to step into a shop leadership role at a company that takes genuine pride in what it produces. Our client offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience, a well-equipped 12,000 sq ft facility, and a team culture defined by craft and quality. If you are an operationally sharp shop manager who thrives in a high-standard environment and wants to own the operation - not just supervise it - we want to hear from you.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
