Your Role: Design Technician – reporting to our Design Manager


What You Bring:

  • Read, interpret and understand blueprints and the building codes relating to residential, commercial or farm projects.
  • Ability to examine drawings and blueprints for intent, conformity, and error.
  • Design individual roof or floor trusses, I-joist, beam and column components, ensuring correct loading has been applied according to customer requirements, blueprints, and engineered specifications.
  • Produce roof and floor takeoffs, layouts, load development and truss designs using MiTek Sapphire, Wood Works, or similar component sizing software and CAD software programs.
  • Generate quotes quickly, efficiently and accurately for customers.
  • The skill to deal with various customers courteously and effectively, having an exceptional customer service attitude to maintain excellent client interaction.
  • Communicate with engineers, architects, and contractors regarding project details before and during construction.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers.
  • Demonstrated skills working in a team environment.
  • Willing to learn and contribute in whatever way possible.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Attend and participate in all Company-sponsored training programs as required.


Qualifications:

  • Technical diploma or engineering degree - preferred
  • 3+ Experience with MiTek Sapphire.
  • 5+ Work experience in the wood truss and engineered wood products industry.
  • Knowledge of engineering wood trusses, wood I-joists and structural composite lumber products.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the building and construction process related to single-family, multi-family and light commercial wood-framed construction.
  • Understanding of local building codes and construction practices. Experience in leading, motivating and developing staff members. Able to protect and reinforce a positive corporate culture.
