Job description

Accounting Manager – Temp-to-Hire

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Pay: $70-$85k DOE

Duration: 3+ Month Contract with Strong Potential for Temp-to-Hire

Schedule: Monday–Friday, Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join a small Oil & Gas company in a very hands-on role. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being involved in the day-to-day accounting rather than simply overseeing a team. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing core accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, JIB, general ledger activity, trial balances, and JIB cash management.

The ideal candidate will be an independent thinker who can take ownership of the accounting function, identify issues, and work through problems with minimal direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations for a small Oil & Gas office.
  • Process and oversee Accounts Payable, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payments.
  • Manage Joint Interest Billing (JIB) processes and ensure accurate and timely billing.
  • Handle JIB cash management, including monitoring cash activity and reconciling related accounts.
  • Prepare and post general ledger journal entries.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and perform account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review trial balances and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Review accounting transactions for accuracy and proper coding.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies independently.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Work closely with internal leadership, vendors, and working-interest partners as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
  • Take ownership of day-to-day accounting needs in a small-office environment.

Qualifications

  • Oil & Gas accounting experience is required.
  • Strong experience with JIB and JIB cash management.
  • Hands-on experience with Accounts Payable and General Ledger accounting.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and trial balances.
  • Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with limited direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a small, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Excel and accounting software skills.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who can roll up their sleeves and own the accounting function. This is not a high-level management position where responsibilities are delegated—the Accounting Manager will be directly involved in the daily accounting work and should be comfortable identifying what needs to be done and taking care of it independently.
