Job description

Description

The Drexel Way:

We don't just sell lumber; we Supply. Happiness. Drexel is Team Member-owned and community-driven. With six retail hubs and three manufacturing plants across Wisconsin, we've been a Top Workplace every year since 2011. Why? Because we hire for heart and train for skill. When you join Team Blue, you aren't just a team member - you're an owner.

The Mission:

As our Door Prep Technician, you are the "Point A" of our craftsmanship. You don't just prep parts; you set the rhythm for the entire shop. You'll take raw jambs, slabs, and sills and-with wizard-level precision-transform them into a perfectly machined kit ready for our assembly teams to bring to life. If you aren't accurate, the door doesn't swing. You are the foundation.

Defining the Role:
  • Master the Machine: You'll be the pilot of our routing and machining stations, expertly cutting, sizing, and boring jambs, mullions, and slabs for both interior and exterior units.
  • Hardware Heroics: Standard locks? Easy. Specialized multi-point locks and custom mortise preps? That's where you shine. You ensure every piece of hardware fits like a glove.
  • The Air Traffic Controller: You'll ensure every prepped component is labeled clearly and delivered to the Assembly Teams exactly when and where they need it.
  • Work Order Wizardry: You'll read and interpret work orders with an eye for detail that catches mistakes before they happen.
  • The Heavy Lifting: You'll stay active, maneuvering 50-70 lbs throughout the day. It's a workout you get paid for!
  • Tool Savvy: You speak the language of hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic systems fluently.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Assembly Accuracy: Consistently produces jambs that meet all structural and functional standards (squareness, reveal consistency, and hinge/latch routing depth) on the first attempt.
  • Work Order Fidelity: Demonstrates high attention to detail by ensuring all wood species, frame depths, handings, and custom cutouts perfectly match the provided shop drawings.
  • Production Consistency: Maintains a steady pace of physical output, effectively managing the measuring, cutting, and joinery of raw lumber throughout the duration of a shift.
  • Workflow Optimization: Minimizes downtime and material scrap by transitioning smoothly between standard and custom runs while maintaining a synchronized bench setup.
  • Safety Compliance: Operates all stationary machinery, power tools, and pneumatic equipment using proper safety and ergonomic techniques to ensure a zero-incident work environment.
The Drexel Advantage:

The Wealth-Builder (Ownership)

  • ESOP Shares: We don't just work here; we own the place. You'll earn a real stake in the company's success.
  • Profit Sharing: When Drexel wins, our team wins.
  • 401k: A solid foundation for your long-term retirement goals.

Health & Well-Being

  • Comprehensive Coverage: Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance to keep you and your family "weather-proof."
  • Fitness Reimbursements: Annual funds dedicated to your physical health and family activities.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Confidential support when life gets complex.

Life & Legacy

  • Immediate Paid Time Off: Start with Holiday and Vacation pay from day one.
  • Scholarship Program: We're invested in the next generation-educational support for the children of our team members.
  • Annual Charity Match: We'll double your impact on the causes you care about most.

The "Drexel" Lifestyle

  • Birthday PTO: A paid day off to celebrate you.
  • Product Discounts: Special pricing on the high-quality materials we sell.
  • Plus More: A constant stream of "fun little perks" that make the yard a great place to be.
