Position Purpose
Milton Elementary School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled Elementary Special Education Teacher who is committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of all learners. Our ideal candidate is a collaborative and innovative educator who values building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues while providing individualized, high-quality instruction to meet diverse student needs.
Milton School District is focused on hiring teachers who maintain high academic expectations while personalizing instruction and implementing inclusive practices to ensure every student is supported on their individual learning journey.
The Special Education Teacher helps ensure that every student is seen, supported, and included by partnering with teachers, families, and service providers to meet the diverse needs of learners in our school community.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in both inclusive and small-group settings, as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Develop and implement high-quality, individualized learning plans that address students' unique academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Collaborate regularly with general education teachers, specialists, related service providers, and families to support student success.
  • Utilize a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies and differentiation techniques to meet the needs of a heterogeneous classroom.
  • Assist general education teachers in adapting curriculum, instruction, and assessments for students with disabilities.
  • Collect, interpret, and use data to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and adjust interventions.
  • Case manage assigned students and facilitate the IEP process, including writing IEPs, leading IEP meetings, and maintaining compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment that values diversity and promotes a positive learning community.
  • Communicate regularly with families to build strong partnerships and encourage parental engagement in students' learning.
  • Participate in ongoing professional learning and contribute to the school's collaborative culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid New Hampshire Certification in General Special Education or appropriate endorsement for elementary grades.
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's Degree preferred).
  • Prior successful experience as a Special Education Teacher is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of New Hampshire and federal special education laws and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Wit & Wisdom English Language Arts and iReady Mathematics is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
  • Strong skills in differentiated instruction, behavioral interventions, and inclusive practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice.
