Job description

Job Summary: The Substation Design Engineer is responsible for the engineering, coordination, and execution of medium- and high-voltage air and gas-insulated substation projects, including new installations and modifications/upgrades of existing substations in the 34.5kV–550kV range. The role involves performing electrical engineering computations and analysis, as well as developing and supporting design tasks using standard engineering techniques and procedures. Responsibilities and level of independence will vary based on experience.

Responsibilities:

· Attend pre-engineering and pre-construction client meetings at substations located at various places within US.

· Perform electrical engineering analysis and develop substation design deliverables, including but not limited to:

o Substation/switchyard general arrangements, layouts, and elevations

o Grounding system studies and design

o Equipment selection and reviewing vendor drawings/specifications

o Equipment documentation reviews

o Auxiliary power (AC and DC) design

o Raceway systems/ trench, and conduit design

o Bill of Materials

o Lightning protection analysis and design

o Illumination design

o Prepare new and modify existing relay drawings including relay panel arrangements, single lines, three lines, AC & DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.

o Review existing drawings/conditions and incorporate changes per customer requirements/standards.

· Implement engineering and design knowledge of NESC & NEC.

· Collect data and gather information and support production of engineering design. Generate design and detail drawings including orthographic, plans/sections, and isometrics by using 2D or 3D CAD software / computer-aided drafting tools such as AutoCAD or Micro Station/Bentley 3D.

· Prepare, update and support the project execution, in own area of responsibility, and proactively manage this work in accordance with the project schedule with emphasis on; On-time delivery, Quality of deliverables and project costs, project safety.

· (Senior Level) Lead design efforts, coordinate across disciplines, interface with clients and vendors, review and approve work of other engineers/designers, and provide technical guidance and mentorship.

· Follow PNODE INC. Quality processes and document control procedures to ensure design documents/deliverables are complete and accurate. Notify the project lead of any difficulties encountered in the engineering/design that may impact safety, reliability, quality, cost, or schedule of the PNODE project deliverables and provide recommendations for solutions.

Qualifications / Required Skills:

· Individuals should have four-year accredited electrical engineering degree with experience as a Substation Design Engineer.

· Knowledge of power system fundamentals and substation design principles.

· Experience in Electrical substation drawings using 2D or 3D AutoCAD or Micro Station CAD software OR work experience in electrical substation design.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.

Additional Requirements:

· PE license of Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, New York preferred.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Travel is required; up to 30% within USA.

· Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for the United States.
