What is a WinUI?

A WinUI job involves working with Microsoft's Windows UI (WinUI) framework to develop modern, native Windows applications. WinUI provides a flexible and scalable UI framework for Windows apps, supporting Fluent Design and integration with the latest Windows features. Developers in this role typically use C#, XAML, and the Windows App SDK to create responsive and visually appealing user interfaces. This job may include tasks such as designing UI components, optimizing performance, and ensuring compatibility across Windows devices.

What does a WinUI developer do?

A typical day for a WinUI Developer involves designing and coding user interfaces, debugging and optimizing Windows applications, and participating in team stand-ups or code reviews. Developers often collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, backend developers, and project managers to translate design concepts into high-quality apps. Tasks may include prototyping new features, refining the user experience, and troubleshooting issues reported by users or testers. This role offers a dynamic mix of independent work and teamwork, and regularly calls for creative problem-solving and innovation.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a WinUI position?

To thrive as a WinUI Developer, you need expertise in C#, XAML, and the Windows UI (WinUI) framework, typically backed by a background in software development or computer science. Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio, Git, and Azure DevOps, as well as experience in UWP or Windows App SDK, is often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure the creation of robust, user-friendly Windows applications and successful collaboration within development teams.

About the Role

Senior Software Engineer focused on designing and delivering end-to-end full-stack applications on the modern .NET platform while integrating AI-assisted coding tools and maturing the SDLC. The role leads architecture and standards, mentors developers, and drives modernization of development practices.

Job DescriptionRole

Senior individual-contributor software engineer responsible for designing, building, and delivering end-to-end full-stack applications on the modern .NET platform. The position owns architecture and design decisions, integrates AI-assisted coding tools into delivery workflows, and establishes engineering standards and SDLC practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and deliver full-stack applications using .NET (including .NET 8/10), C#, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework Core; web front-ends, desktop/fat-client apps, Web APIs, and data layers.
  • Build responsive web UIs with React/TypeScript and/or Blazor; develop modern Windows desktop clients (WPF, WinUI 3, .NET MAUI, Blazor Hybrid) backed by SQL Server.
  • Own architecture from discovery through release, balancing scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Integrate AI-assisted/agentic coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex), set team norms, and review standards for AI-generated code.
  • Evaluate AI tooling landscape and recommend changes to the AI development roadmap.
  • Establish and mature SDLC practices: source control, branching, PR/code review, CI/CD, testing, and release/change management.
  • Define and document engineering standards, solution patterns, and reference architectures.
  • Act as a hands-on technical lead: facilitate discovery sessions, review pull requests, coordinate releases, and mentor developers and analysts.
  • Manage and harden work from external consultancies and staff-augmentation partners to meet engineering standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience delivering large, complex applications end-to-end.
  • Senior-level proficiency with modern .NET, C#, ASP.NET Core, EF Core, React/TypeScript, Blazor, SQL Server, and desktop technologies (WPF, WinUI 3, .NET MAUI, Blazor Hybrid).
  • Experience maturing SDLC and engineering standards and managing external consultancies.
  • Strong SQL Server skills (T-SQL, stored procedures, views, performance tuning) and PostgreSQL experience.
  • Practical proficiency with AI-assisted and agentic development tools and the ability to evaluate emerging AI tools, models, and frameworks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services and cloud architecture patterns, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and SDLC discipline.
  • Strong communication skills, problem-solving mindset, ownership, and ability to mentor and hold partners accountable to quality standards.
Core Competencies
  • Software and cloud architecture, integration/APIs, database design, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Hands-on technical leadership, code review, and standards evangelism.
  • Automation, pragmatic delivery, and modernization/transformational experience.
  • Primarily an office-based role during regular business hours with occasional on-call responsibilities and minimal travel.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA), Dependent Care FSA and match
  • Employer-paid Basic Life and AD&D, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
  • Voluntary insurance options (Life and AD&D, Accident, Long Term Care, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, Pet Insurance, Legal Services)
