What does a window installer do?

A window installer is a skilled professional responsible for fitting and securing new windows in residential or commercial buildings. Their duties include measuring openings, removing old windows, preparing the area, and ensuring the new windows are properly aligned, sealed, and insulated. Window installers must also ensure that the windows meet safety standards, are weatherproof, and function correctly. They may work with various window types, such as double-hung, casement, or bay windows. Attention to detail and knowledge of construction materials are essential in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Window Installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Window Installer, you need expertise in construction techniques, precise measuring, and familiarity with various window types, usually gained through hands-on experience or vocational training. Proficiency with power tools, hand tools, and sometimes certification in OSHA safety standards is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong customer service skills help installers excel in diverse job environments. These skills are crucial for ensuring accurate installations, customer satisfaction, and adherence to safety and building codes.

What are some common challenges faced by Window Installers on the job?

Window Installers often encounter challenges such as working in varying weather conditions, handling heavy or awkwardly shaped materials, and ensuring precise measurements for a proper fit. Additionally, they may need to troubleshoot unexpected issues like structural damage or discrepancies in window sizes. Strong communication skills are also important, as installers frequently coordinate with homeowners, general contractors, and team members to ensure projects stay on schedule and meet quality standards.

What Is a Window Installer?

As a window installer, your primary responsibilities are the installation and the replacement of windows in structures like houses and other buildings. The windows you install are typically pre-made, so you will not have to deal with sizing or cutting glass. Your job duties involve heavy lifting and climbing to fit windows into the correct locations on construction sites or in existing structures. You also make sure your window installations are level, weather-tight, and meet manufacturer specifications. Window installation jobs may last one day or weeks, depending on the size of the structure and the number of windows being installed or replaced.

Do you enjoy working with your hands, solving problems, and seeing a project come to life at the end of the day?
At 12-Point SignWorks, we bring brands to life through custom signage, vehicle wraps, experiential graphics, and creative visual solutions. Our work is varied, highly visible, and rarely ordinary. One day you may be installing a dimensional logo in a corporate office. The next, you may be applying vehicle graphics, installing a wall mural, preparing custom signage in the shop, or helping complete a unique branded-environment project.
We are a growing, full-service sign company located in Franklin, Tennessee. Our team values quality craftsmanship, integrity, accountability, respect, and the ability to work together toward a common goal. We take pride in delivering excellent work for our clients while creating opportunities for our team members to learn new skills and grow professionally.
We are looking for an experienced sign-shop professional who enjoys variety, takes pride in the details, and would like to build a long-term career with a company that is investing in its future. Candidates with advanced sign-industry experience are also encouraged to apply.
A Day in the Life

As a Sign Production & Installation Specialist, you will play an important role in bringing our projects across the finish line. This is a hands-on position that combines field installation with shop-based production support.
If you thrive on variety, enjoy learning new skills, and like seeing the tangible results of your work, this role offers the opportunity to do something different from one day to the next.
Depending on the project schedule, you may:
  • Install vinyl graphics, wall murals, window graphics, decorative films, and vehicle graphics
  • Install interior and exterior dimensional signage, lettering, plaques, and branded-environment elements
  • Assist with sign finishing, assembly, trimming, weeding, taping, packaging, and other production tasks
  • Load, transport, and unload signage and installation materials safely
  • Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other installation equipment
  • Review measurements, drawings, proofs, and installation instructions before beginning a project
  • Work collaboratively with our production, design, and project-management teams
  • Communicate professionally with customers while working on site
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Occasionally travel or work outside regular hours when a project requires it
This position is a strong fit for someone who enjoys being part of a small, collaborative team and is comfortable shifting between projects as deadlines and priorities evolve.
What We Need

To be considered for this position, you should have:
  • Previous experience working in a sign shop
  • A strong work ethic and a dependable, team-oriented attitude
  • Pride in your workmanship and close attention to detail
  • Good problem-solving skills and a resourceful mindset
  • The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with others
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools safely
  • A valid drivers license and a clean driving record
  • The ability to safely lift and carry at least 50 pounds
  • Comfort working on ladders, lifts, and elevated work platforms
  • A professional appearance and the ability to represent 12-Point SignWorks well at customer locations
  • Flexibility to assist with occasional after-hours, weekend, or out-of-town installations when needed
Experience That Would Be Especially Valuable

The right candidate does not need to arrive with every skill listed below. However, experience in any of these areas would be a strong advantage:
  • Vehicle-wrap and vinyl-graphics installation
  • Interior and exterior commercial-sign installation
  • Wall murals, window films, and architectural finishes
  • CNC router operation

  • Print production, finishing, or pre-press support
  • Dimensional-letter and architectural-sign installation
  • Boom-lift or scissor-lift operation
  • Reading drawings, measurements, and installation plans
  • Light fabrication, carpentry, or construction-related skills
Opportunities for Growth

We are looking for someone who wants more than a short-term job. As you demonstrate your skills, reliability, and leadership abilities, there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility and advance toward a Senior Installer or Lead Installer role.
We value team members who are motivated to learn, willing to step in where needed, and committed to growing personally and professionally.
