Wick information

What is a wick?

A Wick job typically refers to a role related to candle-making, fiber wicking, or fluid movement within mechanical or industrial systems. In candle-making, it involves selecting, preparing, and maintaining wicks for optimal burning. In industrial applications, a wick job may involve managing fluid transport in systems that rely on capillary action. The specific duties depend on the industry and context in which the job exists.

What does a wick do?

A wick is a material, often made from braided or twisted fibers, that is designed to draw up liquids through capillary action. Wicks are commonly used in candles to draw melted wax to the flame, in oil lamps to transport fuel, and even in some industrial or scientific applications to move fluids. The effectiveness of a wick depends on its material, thickness, and the liquid it is designed to transport. Choosing the right wick is essential for safety and optimal performance, especially in candles and lamps. Proper maintenance and sizing of the wick can also impact the efficiency and lifespan of the product.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a wick, and why are they important?

I'm sorry, but 'Wick' is not a recognized professional occupation, so I cannot provide a relevant answer.

What is the difference between Wick vs Electrician?

Job description

Foreman – Post Frame Construction

Wick Buildings, Inc. — Majority Employee-Owned (ESOP)

Location: Omaha, NE Area | Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Wick Buildings is a majority employee-owned company (ESOP) looking for an experienced Working Foreman to lead post-frame construction crews in the greater Omaha, Nebraska area. When you join Wick, you’re not just an employee — you’re an owner. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can build alongside their crew while keeping the job safe, on schedule, and to Wick’s quality standards. If you take pride in your craftsmanship, lead by example, and put safety first, we want to talk to you.

What It Means to Be Employee-Owned

As a majority employee-owned company, our team members share in the success they help create. Our foremen and crews have a real, vested stake in the quality of every build and the growth of the company. That ownership mindset is why our people stay, take pride in their work, and look out for one another on the jobsite.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and work alongside a crew on post-frame building projects from start to finish
  • Set the daily pace, assign tasks, and keep the jobsite organized and productive
  • Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to ensure accurate builds
  • Champion jobsite safety — enforce safe work practices, conduct toolbox talks, and ensure proper use of PPE and fall protection
  • Operate and transport equipment and materials to and from job sites
  • Communicate progress, material needs, and issues to the project manager
  • Train, coach, and mentor crew members to develop their skills
  • Maintain quality control and ensure each project meets customer expectations
  • Overnight travel is often part of the job, and Wick pays for the hotel, travel time, and per diem
What You Bring
  • Proven post-frame construction experience — you know how to build pole barns, ag buildings, commercial, and residential post-frame structures
  • Experience running a crew — you’ve led teams, managed schedules, and held people accountable
  • Safety-minded mindset — a track record of running incident-free, OSHA-compliant job sites
  • Class A CDL (required) — clean driving record to transport crews, equipment, and materials
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction plans
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and at heights
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a leadership presence that earns respect
Why Wick Buildings
  • Majority Employee-Owned (ESOP) — build equity and share in the company’s success as an owner
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Benefits package — [health, dental, vision, disability, life, accident, critical illness, 401(k), PTO]
  • Steady, year-round work with an industry leader in post-frame construction
  • A team that values safety, quality, and the people who build for us
