Office of Adult, Aging and Disability Services - Wheat Ridge Regional Center
This work unit provides comprehensive services and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This work unit's focus is on providing services and supporting an active learning approach. The work unit is also focused on creating and promoting a safe and healthy environment for individuals supported. This work unit provides 24-hour treatment services that are in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
The Wheat Ridge Regional Center is looking to hire motivated, hard-working individuals to provide direct support services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Some of the individuals we serve have high medical needs, while others need significant support around behavioral and mental health needs. About the Work Unit:
This work unit exists to provide direct supervision and support, crisis intervention, and active treatment, and to ensure the physical safety and security of the persons served at the Wheat Ridge Regional Center (WRRC), its staff members, its property, and others. WRRC is composed of 17 homes and is designated as an ICF/IID facility (Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities). This includes the Kipling Village Complex, which is composed of five residential facilities licensed as an ICF/IID; this is a partially locked unit serving individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, some of whom receive treatment for criminal and/or sex-offending behaviors. The majority of the individuals served at WRRC are dually diagnosed with an intellectual/developmental disability as well as mental health diagnoses and present significant behavioral challenges. WRRC provides safety and security, behavioral management, crisis intervention, rehabilitation/treatment, quality health, and active treatment learning in a safe, healthy environment for individuals with intellectual disabilities and co-occurring mental illness. This work unit provides 24-hour treatment services that are in compliance with State and Federal regulations. This work unit also provides staff with knowledge, skills, and training to perform the essential functions and assigned duties of their positions in the area of safety and security for individuals supported and employees of the agency.
Description of Job
About this position:
The Clinical Security Officer I position exists to provide specialized support that meets the safety, behavioral, health, and residential needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities, co-occurring mental health diagnosis, as well as complex safety and behavioral needs, who live in ICF-IID group homes. This position will assist in safety and security, crisis intervention emergencies; milieu management; behavioral intervention; physical intervention; implementing the Individual Program Plan; and providing direct supervision and support. This position evaluates and ensures the physical safety and security of the persons served at the Wheat Ridge Regional Center, its staff members, and the community. The position also assists in providing training to other staff, in order to teach them to provide a safe and secure environment. This position works in the homes to provide aggressive, consistent, and specialized implementation of a 24-hour, individualized plan designed to help individuals achieve safe behavior, maximum independence and prevent functional regression through training, services, and skill building. This position provides interventions compliant with federal and state licensing requirements and facility policies and procedures
Duties of the position:
- Ensures safety and security for ICF/IID facilities throughout the community.
- Completes daily documentation for all areas assigned, including entering into databases, Therap, and emailing team members. Notifies appropriate team members or agency personnel when observations are made that conflict with, are counterproductive to the Individual Program Plan, or compromise safety.
- May need to drive to numerous sites daily and interface with a variety of staff and individuals. Observes and completes documentation at the work sites to ensure timeliness and accuracy of recording bed checks, programs, security, phone and key check-out, and other documentation as necessary
- Within the scope of training provided and under the direction of other professional staff, directs the milieu management onsite and responds promptly to individuals in crisis.
- Assists in verbal de-escalation techniques; performs approved physical interventions, utilizing the least restrictive measures possible; assists in searching for individuals who have eloped and returning them safely to the facility or transporting to/from hospital, correctional facility, etc.; and searches the facility for dangerous objects, contraband, weapons, etc., and removing/storing safely when needed. These positions will go through additional, specialized training to work in this program that focuses on safety-related topics such as crisis intervention and milieu management. This position is then responsible for utilizing this training throughout the course of their work and daily duties. Utilizes training provided in order to redirect an aggressive individual and to maintain a safe and orderly environment, ensuring the environment is safe so that individuals and agency staff are free from harm. Routinely interfacing with law enforcement and or adult protective services regarding individuals when needed. Provides supervision and ensures safety in accordance with individual behavioral programs. Makes recommendations based on observations to the teams regarding individual behavior program development, safety protocols, programming, and milieu management. Employs approved crisis management curriculum to keep individuals, staff, and the community safe. This position is responsible for monitoring and recognizing unsafe situations in the milieu. When unsafe situations are identified, this position is responsible for correcting the situation, notifying the appropriate team members, and reporting safety concerns to the supervisor. This position will take the lead in safety-related situations such as room searches, personal searches, elopements, or environmental factors (unsecured chemicals, sharps, medications, etc)
- Within the scope of training provided, under the direction of other professional staff and according to the individual's Individual Program Plan, this position uses a training approach, promoting the most independence possible. This includes consistently implementing behavioral, therapy, residential, vocational, and recreation-related objectives as identified in the Individual Program Plan of persons served.
- Provides supervision and support in all activities of daily living (ADL). This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring safety while promoting coping skills, community safety, behavioral management, meal preparation, money management, personal hygiene, social skills, recreation activities, domestic skills, and transportation.
- Transports (drives) and provides supervision and support for individuals while transporting them to their day program/work site, medical appointments, court hearings, and/or community activities.
- Protects the rights of persons served and enhances their quality of life. Assess the safety and security of the environment at all times, while adhering to the Individual Program Plan.
Implements preference assessments and skill acquisition programs to promote learning opportunities for individuals supported. This position is also required to document in a timely and accurate manner the results of the implementation of all elements of the Individual Program Plan - Other duties as required for business needs, including medication administration

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
Special Qualifications: - SBON (State Board of Nursing) Licensed Psychiatric Technician LPT), Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP) or equivalent required for this position. This license/certification must be valid, current and unrestricted. If the candidate does not have an LPT or QMAP upon hire, as a condition of employment, this position must successfully complete a QMAP class registered with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) within 2 months of hire AND be delegated to their assigned group home.
