Salary Range: $250,000 to $350,000

Position Description:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the organization's financial management. The CFO ensures the long-term financial sustainability of the organization while supporting its mission, values, and strategic objectives.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO oversees all financial operations, budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and risk management while supporting organizational growth and long-term impact.

About the Evans Scholars Foundation | Western Golf Association:

Since 1930, the Evans Scholars Foundation (ESF) has provided full tuition and housing scholarships to deserving caddies. More than 12,870 Alumni have graduated as Evans Scholars, representing more than $435 million in tuition and housing costs. There are currently 1,260 Evans Scholars attending 28 universities across the country. The Western Golf Association (WGA) has conducted championships for professional and amateur golfers since 1899. Today, it is a driving force in the game of golf, raises funds and awareness for the Evans Scholars Program and promotes youth caddie opportunities.

Job Responsibilities

Financial Leadership and Strategy

  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization's mission and strategic plan.
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and long-range financial planning.
  • Monitor organizational financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure effective cash flow management and investment oversight.
  • Support the development of sustainable revenue strategies, including grants, contracts, donations, and earned income activities.

Accounting and Financial Management

  • Direct all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial management systems.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, nonprofit regulations, and donor requirements.
  • Oversee tax filings, regulatory reports, and other financial compliance obligations.

Leadership and Organizational Management

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Present financial, technology, and property-related reports to the Board and Finance Committee.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in organizational planning and decision-making as a member of the executive leadership team.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • CPA required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in finance and administration.
  • Experience in nonprofit financial management preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and audits.
  • Experience presenting to boards, finance committees, and senior leadership teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent financial analysis, planning, and forecasting skills.
  • Understanding of information technology, legal matters, and real estate operations is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, team development, and change management capabilities.

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a professional office environment with occasional travel to organizational facilities, meetings, and community events. Some evening and weekend work may be required to support Board meetings and organizational priorities.
