POSITION TITLE: Health and Wellness Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Salary

GENERAL STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the goal of all programs is a spiritual, emotional, and physical regeneration of all people.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Health and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Group Exercise Program as well as assisting with coordination of other health and wellness programming of the Kroc Center Hawaii. The Health & Wellness Coordinator will handle recruiting, hiring, evaluating, scheduling, training, problem resolution, customer relations, quality and safety assurance.
The Health and Wellness Coordinator will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school graduate or GED.
• One year Group Exercise Instruction.
• Two years of management experience or program coordination experience.
• Group Exercise Certification required (minimum of one): ACE, ACSM, or AFAA or equivalent training/education.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification. (ability to acquire within 6 months of hiring)
• Experience in coaching/motivating individuals and groups & leadership skills.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in physical education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or
• related field preferred.
• Personal Training Certification (Preferred): ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or NASM.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Direct supervision of the Group Exercise program: identify program needs; research new class formats to offer; schedule & supervise instructors; coordinate class schedules; mentor and evaluate instructors; assess and grow member satisfaction and retention.
• Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates for hiring and selection process.
• Assist the manager in supervision of Fitness Attendants, and Personal Trainers: provide direction and quality control to ensure the center meets or exceeds the monthly goals for fitness operations including financial and other operating results.
• Mentor Health and Wellness staff and provide feedback to help improve and develop stronger customer service outcomes.
• Assist in the coordination and planning of all revenue generating activities, including but not limited to complimentary workouts, seminars, workshops, etc. and assists the membership team with fitness presentations as needed.
• Assist in every aspect of the daily cleanliness of the fitness floor and locker rooms and carry out regular health and safety checks on all equipment.
• Assist members and guests and encourage their involvement in our fitness programs. Maximize retention through participation and relationship building.
• Develop safe, professional, exciting and comprehensive programs to ensure clients are satisfied with their group exercise program and remain motivated to attain their personal fitness goals.
• Develop policies and procedures for group exercise programs and other retention- based programming.
• Lead and provide excellent customer service to all members and guests according to the standards set by the Health & Wellness Manager, Program Director, and Center Director. Collaborate and assist Health & Wellness Manager in other member retention programs and initiatives, achieving targeted member retention goals for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
• Possess strong interpersonal & communication skills. Able to generate, maintain & demonstrate a friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude.
• Possess a strong member service focus. Respond professionally to requests and inquiries from guests, members, and staff to ensure effective long-term problem resolution.
• Fill in for the Health and Wellness Manager when he or she is not available.
• Partake in leading weekly and monthly team meetings.
• Manage member integration by working closely with the sales team, medical
advisor and member’s personal physician as needed.
• Conduct wellness lectures and outreach activities to build awareness and wellness participation within the community.
• Directly responsible for supervising a team of certified fitness professionals such as Group Exercise Instructors to meet budgeted objectives within the Kroc Center.
• Maintain a current Group Fitness certification and regularly conduct and audit classes to maintain high membership retention levels.
• Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
• Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
• Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MENTAL DEMANDS:
The individual in this position must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. They must be detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in their work. The role requires the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure under pressure.

The employee must be self-motivated and capable of managing a self-directed schedule, taking projects from initiation through completion. They should be able to respond to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner.

Additionally, the individual must possess the discipline to perform repetitive tasks without compromising quality. The ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team of professionals is essential. Strong judgment and a willingness to take initiative on projects are also required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires a high degree of energy, physically fit and have the endurance to complete the workout. Physical effort required for daily duties include lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting & prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud. Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business. The Health and Wellness Coordinator will work one weekend day a week, on the opposite day from the Manager.
Most work will be at the Kroc Center Hawaii Facility. Attendance at training and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required. Occasional travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of three days or more.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Cardio, strength, and group exercise training equipment.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Current CPR and AED certificates may be acquired after employment. Group Exercise Instructor Certification required (minimum of one): ACE, ACSM, AFAA. The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation. On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
